My old landlord has sent a debt collector after me for money that I already paid them. I contacted the debt collector in Jan and sent them proof that I had paid the money before it was due and they stopped contacting me. Now they've reported to the ratings agencies that I have a debt in collections, even though I already paid. What are my options here to 1) get this off my credit report and 2) is there any way I can sue them for wasting my time with this poo poo? Edit: Also, when the debt collector initially contacted me they were calling my parents - I was under the impression that's not allowed, am I correct?
