My potted rat. The clay plates are really good for beating the heat.

Do you ever put them in the fridge/freezer for them? It's an extra treat!

I put a half inch of water, some ice cubes and some frozen veggies on a baking pan for our dudes, when it gets real hot

I used to go for frozen peas in a bowl of cold water.

My sighted ones would bob for frozen peas but my blind ones don't seem to detect them. Or they just don't want peas.

But in my (purely anecdotal) experience of talking to people who don't like rats, their "shrimp eyes" are the #2 cited thing that makes them "creepy," right after their tails. They're wrong, of course. Objectively.

Those little beady eyes are super cute though. It's like they're small stuffed toys.

It always weirds me out when new rats figure out what part of you is a face, and they start turning their heads and locking eyes with you for a bit. It's also super adorable tho

I can't even with my little boy. I just walked up to the cage, because I saw him staring at me, and then he spent several minutes alternating between excitedly crawling all around me and running away and hiding behind a thing until I moved my arm a little to quick and he ran away to the other side of the cage. I have never seen a more anxious rat before.

I follow a youtube channel, FriendlyRatForecast, who posts videos, mostly shorts, of her rats and their antics. one of her original chaos potatoes, Cin, died from surgery complications after developing a cancerous tumor. She adopted two new rats from a friend, and planned on introducing them to the other two original rats, Cape and Cyclone, soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey7yne1gNdg but she didn't realize she wasn't adopting two rats, she adopted two rats and 9 jellybeans. I am all too familiar with this surprise, but with hamsters.
