Togashi said he has about three more arcs planned out in his head, so it's far from over.
This ending feels complete until you realize there are still a ton of subplots that never were resolved. Kurapika and the spiders, Chimera Ant Gyro, the Chimera Ants that Pariston apparently has, and more. I suppose it would take a few arcs to wrap those up.

Also Gon vs Hisoka, Hisoka vs Chrollo, Killua's brother (Illumi and the one who joined the spiders) trying to get him back, Leorio doing anything, that tournament in Heaven's tower

The tournament in Heaven's tower always felt like Togashi rubbing his nose at other shounens. It was never going to happens as their was no reason for the characters to ever enter a random tournament.

He was a cameo from another one of his works (Level E) in the HxH anime.

He was forced to do the second by the publisher because the first was so popular.

That Floor Master thing was just a bit of world building, they were never going to enter and try for it themselves. In another manga they probably would have, but Gon and Killua really had no incentive to try for it at all.

The first tournament arc was Genkai's test. So there were actually 3. HxH has only had 2 so far. 3 if you count GI.

Hello thread.
I am still catching up with the show (along with the thread). I just started the last arc but I noticed no one else pointed out that the rat bastard dude was voiced by Hisoka's original VA :haw:

Right, back to page 57 I go. See you in a bit

Edit: that was fun. Now the real question is do I read on or wait 10 years again... :smith:

One thing at the end that I didn't quite 100% understand was the dead butler. Was he one of the twin shape-changing dudes and his brother basically came and took over?

Nah, Gotoh was just a butler. The idea is the Zoldycks hired a shapechanger to keep his death a secret from Killua and Gon.

Huh, I figured Killua had asked him since he was friends with them, but I wasn't sure exactly what the purpose of keeping up that pretense would be. Your version probably makes more sense.

Has Gon actually met pretend Gotoh? I can't remember, but at the beginning of the Hunter Exam he could tell the shapechangers apart, so he should notice differences in fake Gotoh.

I haven't read past where the show ended, but I imagine that's what will happen: Killua or Gon will notice the deception and it'll be the basis for another conflict between Killua and his family (and/or between Gon and Hisoka.)

I never get the last word, and it makes me very sad.
I always interpreted it as Killua asking the shapechanger and Canary to keep Gotoh's death a secret in order to have a spy inside the Zoldyick compound. You know, since he can't go back without his brother going all mind control-ly on him. I can't think of a good reason to keep Gotoh's death from Killua and Gon.

To be correct it's to keep it a secret from Killua and Alluka. Killua really liked Gotoh and would likely be very pissed at Hisoka for killing him and Illumi causing his death. In the manga they show a picture of Killua and Alluka when Canary is doing the shush thing.

From what I remember he could tell the shapechangers apart when they were in their true forms not when they had changed.

I guess the prevailing theories are valid, but I'm still not convinced. Gon was immensely pissed about Kaito's death, but Kaito was a childhood savior and role model, not to mention Gon was convinced at the time that he caused his death. Killua certainly did like Gotoh, but not to the degree he liked Canary; plus, during the arc you saw how he treated butlers as butlers, especially after the flashback where Canary was given orders not to get too close to Killua, so Killua stopped treating her, and by extension all the butlers, as anything but friendly servants.

And the bubble with Killua and Alluka when Canary did the shush thing can be interpreted either way; Canary could be hiding Gotoh's death from them, or Canary was asked by them to hide his death from the family.

In any case,

CHiRAL posted:

is absolutely right; until it comes up again, there's no point reading too much into it, especially since Togashi might die of natural causes before it ever comes up again...

How many eyeballs did he have, there? Is it possible he's collected them all? He still has his vendetta against the spiders, but it'd be cool if he could at least lay his people to rest.

They said that the nen copies disappear after 24 hours, so he definitely noticed that. He probably got the reals ones offscreen after the Spiders got bored and resold them.

He didn't even get that set, it was Neon's. That's a major reason he was so gloomy when he got his hands on it, I imagine; not only was he holding the remains of one of his family (or so he thought), but he wasn't even able to keep it out of the hands of the kind of people who made their murder profitable in the first place.

Though in the long run he was kind of lucky that was a fake, since otherwise in order to complete his personal mission he'd have to go against his boss in the underworld, which would have probably hampered his ability to do what he got into all that for in the first place.

I assume his plan was to steal it from Neon in the first place. She was just a stepping stone for him anyway, and since Chrollo stole her power her family probably lost a lot of influence anyway.

Anyway, the next few chapters of the manga imply that he doesn't work for Neon anymore (or the mafia at all), and he got every set of eyes except for those owned by a specific person.

Oh, yeah, I'm aware of that. But immediately jumping ship from your employer wouldn't establish you as trustworthy. Best case scenario he'd have to endure knowing that the eyes were right there as he continued to work for her, which would suck a lot. Things kind of cascaded in a really horrible way that ended up working out for Kurapika in the long run, though.

Edit: And actually I just remembered that the fakes eyes were assumed to have been stolen when Squala got killed (they probably actually disappeared), so.

That second part is actually partly wrong. (Spoiler for manga)He's specifically labeled as a Nostrade family boss now, so he's still working for the same mafia. He's just risen in the ranks a whole lot.
