how does bitcoin "revolutionize charitable giving"? either you give or you don't and either you care about the charity or you just want a tax write off.
by far just give cash if you want a super fluid donation the has no fees and can allow some anonymity.

well it makes it sort of anonymous i guess. so you could support brave freedom fighters, political campaigns of your choice without statist ''laws'' in the way, entrepreneurs in the third world working hard to feed and, well, certainly to feed underaged girls.

He wrote for a Mac magazine and was a huge computer advocate in general, he's got essays about HyperCard and everything (he periodically stopped to complain about how unusable Unix was for the home user, I want to say in the 80s). One of his friends wrote him a posthumous bit where he laments he died literally JUST before the iPod was announced and Apple stopped sucking :smith:

there's also a kind of conspicuous consumption element to tipping that i imagine assholes would miss, i remember reading rush limbaugh is a huge tipper. it's charity for libertarians: overpaying as a very public gesture of appreciation versus something awarded arbitrarily. where you can assure your money goes to ''your type'' of people.

At least some of the "you can tip a dollar to Timbuktu with anonymity!" poo poo is a dogwhistle. Every person on earth knows there are ways of transferring money internationally, a much smaller number wants to do that for an illicit purpose. That's who that advertisement is trying to reach.

And/or morons who are taking a dogwhistle at face value.

This is hardly the fault of Bitcoin. That’s like blaming a car company for selling a car, but no local businesses change it’s oil, or the person doesn’t live near a gas station.

What is important is he did get his Bitcoin. This is an opportunity for bIG business in Uganda. Many businesses. Nobody is saying Bitcoin is ready to be moved as freely as a dollar. They said the same thing about the internet 20 years ago. The Internet didn’t have search engines 20 years ago. Did that make the Internet a bad invention, or just nascent? Growing pains. Bitcoin is 5 years old. We;ve all grown and improved A LOT since we were 5 years old. Bitcoin will run everything when it’s 15 or 20 years on.

i don't understand the functional difference between all these fractional bitcoin libertarian paradise use cases and a vending machine? 99% of the time it seems like a coin machine or prepaid voucher would do the job much better, and ''we lacked really complex way of exchanging currency while driving'' isn't the reason it's still free to drive down the road.
