We were snowshoeing last winter and came across a vole on top of the snow. I encouraged the dogs to get it because it was sluggish and useless and they have eaten (dead) wild things. They didn't kill it but were happy to paw roughly at and sniff it. Good thing we always bring a hunting knife and were able to dispatch the little critter.
