Are Donda and Donda 2 completely worthless btw? I remember liking that Fivio Foreign verse a lot.

love the Soulja Boi verse on whatever version of First Time in a Long Time i got off Donda 2. the fivio verse on donda 1 is the best part. a few decent songs but is kind of a mess overall. donda 2 is worse

my top 10 are
Denzel
Mr. Muthafuckin’ Exquire
Dogma II (Moh Baretta)
Quinn (self titled)
Pusha T
Matt Ox
On The Run From Area 51, Pt. 2 (RXK Nephew)
Earl
Father
Lupe

and i liked Black Thought / Danger Mouse, Westside Gunn, Freddie Gibbs, Ka, Rico Nasty,
Nas, JID, Kendrick and Vince Staples.

kendrick’s grew on me but then lupe’s grew on me more. kinda doesnt feel like i was blown away by any of them overall.

pusha’s is maybe most consistent and mr mfn exquire most pleasant surprise. denzel’s probably got the most whole Album spins from me per minute of album time ratio. dogma ii was my intro to surf gang who are dissolving rn but its a cool sound i was behind on.

RXK Nephew and Quinn are my fav rappers since young thug. matt ox wouldve had a YEAT level hit this year in a just world but his growth in the underground is a good show. interesting time in music imo just a lot of it’s happening online now

what are some good quinn tracks for the uninitiated

Her sound is changing all the time trying to escape the hyperpop box but here’s one of my fav recent songs from around the dnb era:

Youtube searches for p4rkr and osquinn should find you older hits with the roblox kids. stuff like “ok im cool” and “i hate it here”:

https://youtu.be/d15Db0Fh6Tw

and this new album is only 32 minutes and all short songs. its more mature and like regular music kinda. cant really pick a favourite but skipping around should give you an idea (kinda comparable to the new Brockhampton / kevin abstract sound maybe but i saw on a tweet she hates brockhampton):

i’m not much of a quinn historian cuz i never really caught up on all the old releases but yeah everything she drops feels like an evolution.

okay i picked 3 more songs to link that i think show quinn’s range a bit better. to just list her as a rapper is probably a disservice because it’s her production that’s most distinctive along with the songwriting talents:

i miss when apple music radio had vince staples as a dj and am mad he isnt a radio host elsewhere. also mad i cant find anyone who mirrored/archived it so might take it upon myself to do that. spotify wrapped season got me thinking

i’m linking a throwback / for anyone with apple music who never heard the Soulja Boy episode:

ive always been a fan of atrus50 posts. through the brain holes theres gotta be a truth. id be interested in a list of his sources (is it conspiracy youtube? some comment section out there? a real life group of fellow paranoid hip hop friends?). his theories and tastes seem broad but also strangely specific. the last time i remember him making a splash i think he was posting about dipset mostly?

reminds me of a customer where i work that was mind blown by this stunt double thing
https://youtube.com/shorts/UVJiQ3PndhI or at least i think its an actor, but what if it’s bigger than that?

sad that DatPiff app is dead and redirects to an archive.org collection. i think archive has been majorly sued recently so doesn’t feel safe there either. DatPiff also say theyre working on a new platform, but just makes me feel old when im reminded that the death of mixtapes feels like only yesterday

guess im downloading a third party archive.org player app to listen to some Rich Gang for the rest of the summer cuz i cant do a summer without it (and nice to still access classic mixtapes i dont have downloaded to my phone or any personal cloud)

i ended up using My Mixtapez. the archive app wasn’t working. i like having downloaded music but Tha Tour Pt 1 is uploaded on google music from back in the day and im too lazy to keep backups of every tape (would be one of the first i’d upload again if i was). mainly use Apple music so forgot it’s on Spotify too but happy for the Spotify mains

Because The Internet is cool because it's like an over ambitious kanye concept (script, short film tie-in) executed with no excuses. the script was kinda interesting and funny/surreal in a way that you can see reflected in the later Atlanta tv show. never wholly clicked together for me and hes def more exceptional at TV writing, but commendable how he did all that work, and the album wasn't half bad. the Frank Ocean / alt R&B type influence made his music more easy to listen to. and it came out during the year i have the most nostalgia for... shoutout 2013!

PS he was worse at stand up than music when Freaks & Geeks was a thing. idk if he stuck with that if it'd be better tbh. i find it more respectable how much he improved in music, even if its more derivative and takes less advantage of his (tv comedy writing specialized) talents. he feels more grounded in the lane he's finally built for himself, all mediums considered. i kinda dig that new Daytona era sounding Ye collab and skipped that last album he made from not hearing about it so looking forward to the *final 2 projects, one of which is a remix of the one i skipped

(*p sure he said about the last one so i guess he's a rapper after all)
