Isn't this pretty normal for Baki? I thought it was customary to trot out one of the characters to get chumped by the new guy but then they were usually like "hey that was pretty good I'm totally fine though." Including sometimes when losing a hand/teeth/most of their face.

I always wonder why dudes even pick fights with Yujiro of their own accord. Guys that should know who he is. I guess it's just because the entire cast is made up of giant fightboys with more muscle than brains and they just want to punch each other to death. (but then live anyway through increasingly absurd amounts of punishment)

I enjoy the recurring Baki ability of being able to pretend to do something so well that everyone can see it. My favorite scene in the OVA was Baki demonstrating that he'd been training to fight Retsu by fighting his imaginary friend then demonstrates for everyone by kicking his own rear end. I fluctuate on whether or not I like Yujiro or not but considering certain events in the new series he circles back around to becoming hilarious. I only regret that he's unlikely to ever get his rear end properly beat though because he's been put up on this ridiculous pedestal to the point where he can't ever lose. He's this force of nature that has to be the ceiling everyone's reaching for. He needs to get his stupid, amazingly weird face punched in though because he's such an rear end in a top hat.

Yujiro has some great moments in the Netflix series. His introduction is so over the top and I love it. Also him showing up like a creep and judging his son's sexual performance.

I like how many of the punchmen are all something resembling friends despite how many of them have grievously injured one another. Actually just in general how they react to losing appendages/most of their faces.

I think people who associate with Yujiro just kind of accept that 1: he's a massive prick and 2: he will probably permanently maim you at some point. If you're the sort of punchman who is okay with this, you will become great friends. Edit: let's also not forget that time Yujiro just sucker punched (kicked) him because he caught him a tiny bit tipsy.

Baki characters have lived through some absurd poo poo so I wouldn't be surprised if he was alive somehow. That said I just thought of the most Baki-rear end thing, which is what if Baki visualized a Retsu so real it could fight someone? Hell, he's literally hurt himself with visualizations of fighters before, and he can make himself as powerful as a dinosaur, so why not?

You say that, and that was probably true at some point because Yujiro has been kind of inconsistently written, but he explicitly declared his respect for Muhammad Ali for refusing the draft and there's a bit about people looking up to him as a hero because he was off fighting warlords and stuff, inadvertantly protecting the common people suffering under them. I dunno it's kinda unclear, because he's explicitly been shown declaring his disdain for the weak and how he can do whatever he wants because he's the strongest, but then he's telling Muhammad Ali how cool he is for standing up to the government during the civil rights movement. Yujiro is a man of contrasts. (Who really likes murdering people with his bare hands)

I think there's been a definite softening of his character over the series. He has a sort of weird code of honor now.
