Cowboy Bebop's one of the things that got me deep into anime. It's a drat good show, and it has a ton of western influence. A little farther down the hole is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's more of a standard DBZ type of thing, but it has some of the best battles. Like, in general.

Seriously, you need to watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes, it's not just one of the best animes ever made, it's just straight up one of the best shows I've ever watched. e: The only downside to watching it is 95% of anime will then be disappointing to watch because it's so good in comparison
