I keep getting told by a friend that Unicorn Overlord is good but I just can't get over the prejudices the art/animation style triggers for me, so I'd be excited for this LP. Looks pretty good to me, except that I'd probably add a line break between successive screenshots for the sake of readability.

yeah there were always 2 issues with normal succession threads as i saw them 1) overseers have a weird relationship with one another; the really inspired ones want to do a lot and are frustrated by the lack of in-game time to do it. the more organic ones set the stage for inspired works, but also end up being written into a corner after someone pulls off some insane construction. 2) after overseers took their turns, they were more or less forbidden from interacting with the thread in a meaningful way again. the idea i came up with is supposed to directly address both problems. you have an unlimited amount of time in game, so you can accomplish whatever megalomaniacal aim you have, and it won't write anyone into a corner. alternatively, you can just set down roots somewhere and go with the flow, experimenting and doing some nonsense - and you will still set the stage for appreciating and contextualizing other forts. also, after you've handed the save over there's nothing stopping you from spinning up an adventurer and continuing to contribute.

nah i think that's fine if for no other reason than it allows them to give people some threads to pull on. otherwise how do you know if you found the Really Cool Thing about the fort? anyway i'll bargain on kicking that thread off when the time comes, though idk how much i am going to be actively contributing to it since my life is "work to get money, work to spend money on house, repeat" atm. i'll do the first fort and organize the thread for folks but i doubt i'll be running a ton of adventurers to investigate stuff.

It was sobering to look at the dates on those PMs and realize that was a decade ago.

its pretty standard deviant art type art, while im not a fan of it i have much more respect for the folks who put themselves out there than the hecklers on the sidelines. would've very much enjoyed learning about the route that sounds to have been surprisingly thoughtful given the name, but it's unfortunate that it does also sound like the bulk of it is exactly what it seems on first impression

The artist proceeds to turn in everything to contract, down to the last letter: X sprites for Y characters, backgrounds, etc., and he gets done way ahead of the writer. Artist is also the person who had been doing the updates for people while the game is in development, so he just goes "I've turned in my work, you're just waiting on so-and-so to finish, have fun with the finished product, all!" and he gets offline for years and uses his half of the crowdfunding cash to pay his way through art school. As far as I am aware he is now just a big-boob patreon dude living happily, dunno if he has a good day job, never dug deeper. The back half of the game has a lot of very, very bitter jokes from the writer (who sucks as a dude) about how because he didn't think ahead or get more work out of his partner or whatever, now every single NPC professor in the game is the same sprite, or there aren't enough NPCs, or...

i'm reminded of the imp zone thread where a dude made a pretty great reverse boss order romhack of one of the fire emblem games. the imps were pretty into it and asked what the guy's next project would be. then he said he was going to do something with gender bender dna twister extreme. i genuinely don't remember what, i think it was like make some of the scenes more explicit or something. but regardless of what it was you could basically hear the record scratch in the thread.
