I'm getting into LetterBoxd a lot lately. Reminds me of radio, where you're get a passive view into someone's tastes and preferences -- and a lot of people who are way more nerdy about film than I. Also just seems like a chill social site. Gonna follow a bunch of people in the OP, but if there are folks here who aren't there or just want to expand their circle. That's just really cool. Letterboxd feels so pure, for a social-media-esque site. Doesn't feel popular enough for marketing departments to infiltrate it, so the few actor/director/etc. that are on there just seem to be there cause they also fuckin' love movies and want people to see their inspirations.

I honestly wouldn't mind the interface incorporating TV - it already does for limited series well enough. But the purity of it being about films is nice and I can see how that could clutter the interface if every single episode is rate-able. That's a bummer to hear. At least that happened a month ago and there hasn't been a Bandcamp announcement yet where half the staff are let go immediately on sale.

How many friends are ya'll with that serialised tv ruins it for you? I've only got the handful of people on here and a few stragglers -- and that seems to be pretty much all I see in terms of other people's views/tastes. My only beef would be if it complicated the interface. Otherwise I wouldn't really care if I saw people logging that they watched an episode of Hell's Kitchen. ShoogaSlim posted:ah yes letterboxd, exclusive home of cinematic masterpieces like... Honestly, admirable that they list these.

200 films in 2023. Surprisingly accurate window into what life was like this year between work and moving. Of those, here's the 13 ones I saw that I thought were . CatstropheWaitress fucked around with this message at 15:46 on Jan 1, 2024 |

"The Days of Wine and Roses" which was also a melodramatic and devastating flick. Working my way through Jack Lemmon's flicks, the guy is so good. Nashville before that, which is fuckin' amazing.

Did you lose a bet to watch that much DeCoteau? Watched 1313: Cougar Cult earlier this year and was floored at how much of a not-movie it was. Just endless scenes of hunks in whitey tighties and the barest of plots to justify it. Felt like watching someone indulge in their own private fetish. Admittedly, I don't know that much about the guy. Does he have 34 films that are actually movies?

The person who rated that five stars also recently liked Puss n' Boots and Elemental and that's just great. If that's not just straight up porn might watch it.

I don't know how I feel about each individual episode of Black Mirror being on Letterboxd. They are basically short movies, but it does feel kind of like cheating. When they do finally add tv shows full on to the platform, hope there's some distinction between stuff like it and "Family Guy episode 4".

Didn't learn this til a couple months ago, but Letterboxd is fan-loving-tastic when it comes to telling you where a movie is streaming. Turns out you can edit your profile to select 'favorite services' (i.e. ones you pay for) and can then filter your Watchlist by those favorites. Makes it super easy to filter out stuff that isn't out yet or costs a buck. Also helps id when something is both available on Youtube or Amazon for $$$, but might also be on Peacock or Tubi for free.
