You can also just buy hook-and-loop tape (Velcro branded or generic) in various colors at any Walmart or sewing supply store. So you could either stick a plain piece on that spot, or get creative with iron-on decals to make a custom patch of your own.

Oh, and Jones was there too.

Bought some socks a couple of years ago off Amazon and they've only recently started to wear thin, but the shop is long gone.

Found the same ones on Aliexpress for half the price. They arrived in a week or so and they feel like good quality. Colours are bright, and the whole lot washed fine without all the colours merging together.

Just realized my NUC, that I'm using as an HTPC, is 10 years old this year. Might be time for a replacement.

I'm looking for something low-power, for streaming media from Jellyfin and running emulators + Steam Link. The i3 NUC was surprisingly able to go as modern as emulating GameCube stuff, albeit with some slowdowns even when running simple games like Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door.

What I've gathered from this thread is that N100 is a good low-power-envelope CPU right now, is that still correct?

Does anyone know of any options better/cheaper than this one?
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005999590603.html

And, given that the cheapest RAM+SSD add-on (8 GB + 128GB) is the same price as getting just the 8GB SoDIMM locally, would I still be stupid if I bought that?
You know, going by the rule "don't buy storage media on AliExpress".

I was planning to save for a console, but wow if that doesn't look like a much better alternative. I'd actually trust a small industrial kind of setup like this a lot more than a storage device, the fact that it self-selects for a much more knowledgeable customer and has a relatively very low sales volume means the setup cost to get counterfeit stuff up and running doesn't have nearly as good of a payoff as selling 5 digits of orders for fake drives

I bought the cheapest one I could find and it still seems to be this one, probably around $120 w/o tax for 8/256GB, which is fine for an HTPC imo: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005234838380.html

There are a few fanless options but they tend to be quite a bit more expensive. The fans on these are stopped or extremely quiet at idle power so it's not a big deal. The N95 is basically the same more or less, if you want to play some games, the N97 is significantly better (but still not for latest AAA obviously) but there aren't many of those.

I've had one SSD fail in my Chinese tablet a few years ago but everything else has been ok. For an HTPC without critical documents on it I think it's worth to just get the bundle and yolo it.

I find toys like that are usually better purchased locally. All of the bubble guns I looked at were more than $30 and usually pretty bad.

The N200 isn't newer. It's the same chip with a bit higher turbo clock and a couple more GPU cores. If you don't care about GPU performance, like for a server for example, I'd just get the N100 and save a couple of bucks. If you wanna use it as an actual PC and maybe do some light gaming the N200 might be worth it.

It's a bit faster but not buy a lot, IMO the N97 makes more sense as it boosts the graphics significantly. The N300/305 is 8 core instead but is usually to expensive to be worthwhile as you get into i3 territory.

I think I see what you mean -- if I wasn't gaming on it at all, I'd go with the N95, and if I wanted slightly better gaming performance, say playing modern games on it, I should go with something with more GPU shading/compute units and/or higher clocked, like N97 or N200.

Thing is, the N100 really seems to hit a sweet spot of cost/performance for me. N200 is almost $100 more (that's a 50% premium), and I can't really find any N97 options in stock. Also, I really like the 6W power envelope of the N100.

Edit: I popped off an order for the Firebat T8 with 16GB. Finger crossed for the great Ali lottery. Maybe I'll get Prada sunglasses instead?

Yeah basically, the N97/N200 are still no graphical powerhouse but would let you play more emulated/older games. It'd be easily worth $20 or something but as you say, anything other than N100 is pretty difficult to find at reasonable prices
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EvsGAM1n4s&t=286s

Power-wise they're probably very similar. The N100 will go way over 6W under full load too, like 12-13W, but playing movies is basically idle power.

On Friday I received my hotplate I ordered during the last sale, it's got to be a record at 10 days from order: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006053783156.html
It might be actually even faster becaue I got a notification on Thursday I think. Crazy.

Seems like there's a relatively small heating element in the middle, but it does spread out evenly pretty quickly. It might be about 5-10 degrees C off at the top end, but I haven't really calibrated the camera for emissivity so who knows. Not difficult to compensate for it anway.
  • Incredibly, the listing doesn't seem to actuall say it, but the pad is 80x60mm
  • The UI is just -/+ and off/on
  • It doesn't do any heating or cooling curves but I guess you could hack that in if you really wanted
  • It's AC powered directly so no need for extra power supply

IMO worth it over the smaller one like (like https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006380068665.html) and it's a good price which goes up quickly for larger ones.

Anyone hosed with car stereos? I got an ATOTO deck for my old CRV but my dad's '11 Silverado just has an aux port and no Bluetooth. Pointless to bother with Android auto or anything for him but a unit with Bluetooth and built in storage or a port for a card or flash drive would be great to provide him with some music. A remote for volume/song skip that could attach to the wheel would be great as well as it doesn't have those either.

No, I've never had anything that bad.

Do double check the listing though. Sometimes a listing will have a bunch of options and the cheapest ones are dumb trap options just there to trip up the search results if people sort by by lowest to highest price. So it's possible a listing could have both legit decks of tarot cards and one pack of the cheapest possible playing cards.

Things I've had go wrong were more like:

Once I ordered cloth headphone covers because the fake leather on my headphones was cracking. I got one. One ear cover. I expected a pair! But when I checked the listing sure enough they were sold as singles in that listing, lol.

I've bought a lot of $3 necklaces, and sometimes the chain/cord is unexpectedly child-sized, despite not being sold as children's jewellery. So I have a weird bracelet until I replace the cord. Just because I'm buying a necklace with a dragon on it doesn't mean I'm a child.

Fabric items that claim to be "wool" but are clearly synthetic when you receive them. This might be a translation problem rather than deliberate fraud? Synthetic wool and animal hair wool not having separate words, maybe? Often if you look in the "specifications" tab it will say the material. If you search for wool gloves this is one of the options: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006146308408.html Looks like wool. But the specifications tab says acrylic.

In the same vein sometimes they have impossible items.

This probably not simultaneously sheep, mink, and cashmere (goat) hair. It's just lovely SEO. (the specifications tab says cashmere)

It seems to have good reviews so I wouldn't worry about it. It just seemed worth a few bucks for the larger one. And yours seems to go up to 280c.

The one I got maxes out at 260 indicated and doesn't really reflow the regular leaded solder (63/37). Not sure if it's even supposed to reflow this (as opposed to the lower temp paste you'd normally use), though the various reflow profiles seem to suggest that 210-230c should work with Sn63Pb37.
