Old Town Road to EGOT

This album is definitely front-loaded and the second half is weaker than the first. There are multiple skips after Incognito IMO. It kinda sounds like they went from making a Justice studio album to making a Justice film score for a few tracks there, and it's not particularly interesting to me.

^^ yeah it’s hugely front loaded, it really trails off imo

Neverender is the better Tame Impala song.

:agreed:

Most of the album is ok for me but that song’s a banger.

In my opinion the album falls apart on Explorer. The Miguel song is cool, and the final track with Thundercat is also, but it just doesn't really recover after the album takes a boring turn.

I've listened twice now and I agree with this, Moonlight to Explorer is cool but I think it should end at the Thundercat song literally.

On my 3rd listen of Hyperdrama now. It has its ups & downs, but those first 2 songs really are perfect.

Mannequin Love might be the best song on the album

Explorer is the weirdest track by far, maybe the only miss for me.

Saw LP Giobbi just now. She put out one of my favorite albums of last year, so I figured she'd be cool to see live. Maybe at another venue she would've been, but at the theater where I saw her, it's like the sound system couldn't accommodate her sound. I had never seen an EDM show at this theater before. Oh well.

After listening to like half the new album I think we can safely say porter robinson is off-topic for this thread now lol

Is there a Chainsmokers thread that can adopt him?

Oh dang, I saw her at a small venue in toronto and she was incredible. Multi-instrumental wonder

It's a piece of JUNK!
I'm conflicted over what thread this should go in, as it's not really that electronic. But I think the overall vibe kind of fits, as it's definitely drawing inspiration from stuff like Daft Punk and Kraftwerk. Darren King, the drummer from Mutemath, finally released the solo album he's been putting together on and off for a few years. It's his instrumentals (with some familiar collaborators in the credits) and a wide range of guest vocalists. The version on Bandcamp also includes instrumentals for the entire thing. I'd say they're equally worth listening to. (The vocals are probably the biggest weakness of the project if I had to pick on anything; some of them have a bit of an amateur "college radio" feel, although that's also kind of charming.)

This is really cool! I used to listen to Mutemath a ton back in the day. The first time I saw them live was in 2007 and the lead singer went into the crowd with this MIDI instrument he built called The Atari and he let people in the crowd play it. This was way before Porter Robinson started doing that for Sad Machine.

Green Album finished. Set is a mix of the US and UK versions - Macro Head was a surprise. Got some photos, I'll put them up when I get home tomorrow. I am of course up front and not quite in the centre.

This may have to be my last Orbital gig, though. It's not the music, it's the lights - I have bad photopsia. The flashing lights are painful and can leave burns for hours. I'm having to wear sunglasses with a pair of clipon shades on top of them, and I still have to close my eyes through the worst of it.
