If someone can make a workable manga just by taking out the naughty bits and addign in a panel here and there, more power to them. Yeah, a lot of people in the industry get discovered from some Doujin circle or another. Akimatsu famously did FFVII stuff before Love Hina, and the animation director for GaoGaiGar Final did a whole bunch of fetish stuff.
