Israel has suffered a strategic defeat and if they keep going they will continue to lose even more than they already have.

Hamas is not only intact but doesn't appear to even be significant degraded militarily. The IDF meanwhile is completely incapable of holding territory in Gaza.

Not only that, it's clear from the deeper strikes into Israel in recent days that Iran took a significant chunk out of their supply of interceptors, to the point where Yemen can now threaten to hit ships clear into the Mediterranean. Their border settlements have been evacuated and will not be repopulated for the foreseeable future. They've literally lost ground, and any territory they "take" in Gaza immediately has Hamas dudes pop up and shoot them from behind the moment their backs are turned. The only thing Israel has accomplished is murder and destruction.

I was trying to look up the article where after Bibi claimed that that like 90% of all Hamas forces had been killed some American general or high level intelligence guy who didn’t get the memo was like “wait no it’s like 10%” but instead all I’m seeing is western media “reporting” repeating that line that “thousands” of Qassam brigade fighters have been killed even though there’s no reason besides Israeli counting every single male that hit puberty as Hamas. Very cool how all in the liberals are for genocide.

israel has become a pariah state cant even defeat a concentration camp and all they can do is massacre civilians will continue to get owned by the resistance, and continue to fall apart in terms of actual unity on top of dragging the us down with them

so yeah they're losing in all possible terms

you'd think that after Vietnam, in which the US both downplayed the number of civilian casualties and also wildly, massively inflated the bodycount of actual combatants, people would be a little bit more suspicious of those numbers

but then again the US seems extremely committed to not only never learning any lessons from the Vietnam War, but also more or less erasing it from popular memory

hell, for that matter, Vietnam is another war in which one side attempted to define victory as killing more people than the enemy, and the other side attempted to define victory as accomplishing specific political and military objectives, and the side that gave a poo poo about bodycount got their asses beat

Yep this, before October 7th it was unacceptable to question Israel and be critical of them. Most people had no idea what was actually going on over there, and how horrible the conditions were for the Palestinians. Now out of no where since October 7th, the entire world knows what has been going on and the injustice Palestine faces. Israel has completely tanked their reputation and status in the world, achieved none of its military objectives, and their military has been consistently owned by Hamas and other resistance fighters in the region.

Its made even worst for the state of Israel because most citizens living there have dual citizenship and can just leave at any time. They have no reason to care about this fight, and last I checked, 500,000 Israeli's have left for other countries.

The amounts involved are staggering but not really unexpected given the ongoing destruction. The full UN report hasn't been posted yet but they have a high level summary posted here which includes a number of uplifting graphics like this:

This is probably a very conservative and sanitized estimate of the war's impact, but even then it suggests that the cost of reconstructing infrastructure alone would be $18.5 billion. Also at least 20 years setback in development, so far.

It seems given this money will not be coming, certainly not from the US or Israel. Not trying to predict the future but even if this war somehow ends it seems Palestinians in Gaza are locked into living in an even more restricted area with only semi-functioning infrastructure totally dependent on external aid, surrounded by devastated regions that can't or won't be redeveloped. Is there an alternative?

this means that hamas and related groups will have complete control over the rebuild, good work Rules Based International Order, you’ll have as much soft power influence over future palestine as the seychelles

Seems like a good opportunity for China to plop down one of their fancy container ports right next to the sad unfinished floating dock that the US was supposed to be building

The IDF confirms that 3 soldiers were straight up killed by the rocket attack on Kerem Shalom, on top of the ones that were injured. Extremely remarkable damage compared to other rocket vollies.

It might be an indication of attrition, since all of Isarel's anti-rocket measures have always been way more expensive than what they're shooting down. After the exhanges with Hezbollah and Iran, Israel has to be pretty depleted, even with American resupply.

With how close the impact zone was to the strip (literally a border crossing) it's possible that the rockets landed before they even had enough time to intercept them, and (assuming a siren was triggered) the soldiers just didn't get to shelter in time.
