Happy story: Four years ago I went from unemployed for almost a year, to a lovely factory job just to have something, to an office job, to getting IT certs, to making almost triple what I made before any certs. Sometimes things do work out, but I wasted all of my 20s and part of my 30s in awful jobs when I should have just gone right to IT in the first place.

lambeth posted:I work at a healthcare company which does IT for radiology centers. Over the past few days, one of the centers got one of their scanners replaced. However, they ran into an issue yesterday with the new scanner where the images were being scanned upside down. The vendor for the scanner decided to fix this by replacing the computer connected to the scanner with another one (not the easiest thing to do since the scanner computers are on XP and the rest of the center's computers are on 7 (no, I don't know why they're on XP)). Everything works fine after that. However, the computer didn't actually need to be replaced. Would anyone like to guess what the issue was? They didn't install the correct printer/scanner driver on the XP computer.

At what point do you consider it appropriate to put a certification title in your LinkedIn profile? I think it's tacky seeing "Joe Blow, A+ N+ ITIL" but definitely acceptable to have "Jim Expert CCIE #69690" or whatever.

Good luck Nerdrock. All kids are different. My first would wake up for an hour+ if you flushed the toilet or squeaked the floor. Multiple times a night every night for the first six months. My second has been sleeping through the night since day one other than feedings. You just don’t know what to expect. Also you may need to sell your motorcycles anyway because your wife is going to want that space for strollers and wagons. Plus you will have zero free time to ride.

What is the best private VPN provider and how do you research them? I’d ask in the IT questions thread but I’m a few thousand posts behind. Nord VPN is offering 3 years for $99 (better than the SA deal) but I don’t know if it’s actually good. https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/363079 This was in the comments: Quote from smile17: For torrents, TorGuard is the best. I can keep connection for days. I got their VPN for 2 years for $50 (so $25 per year) with 50% off code: TGLifetime50 7 days free to try. 1. First go to their home page: https://torguard.net/index.php 2. Up top click on Anonymous VPN 3. Top-right Annually 59.99 Buy VPN 4. Next page will show option for 2 years: $99.99USD Biennially 5. Follow prompts, enter promo code, and so on. yummy Bigass Moth fucked around with this message at 16:05 on Aug 25, 2018 |
