The bar is super low for people. Elon musk, the mars man, wore his mars shirt multiple times that was a photo of the moon. So low. It doesn't matter.

And if you really get nerdy about maples, the generic maple leaf on the flag is probably more closely representative of Acer cappadocium, which is a Turkish species, compared to Acer saccharum. Just... I really hate it when chuds are bad at botany.

Some specialists might. But I mean, what's the actual tax increase here? A 16% increase on taxable income, which then gets taxed at the 33% federal income bracket plus whatever your province of residence tacks on.

It's funny to watch doctors out themselves and their tax avoidance scheme a lot of small business owners in Canada use. I think some people are aware of it but I don't think a lot of people realize that once you get rich enough part of your income becomes tax exempt.

The idea that doctors can't take notes... I mean.. what the gently caress are we doing here, right? I realize AI is a scam, someone got a sweet contract with the Ontario government for this, but.. doctors should be able to transcribe things, let's be serious.

My step MIL worked in medical transcription most of her career. They kept telling her that her job was going to disappear in 5 years and she ended up going back to work because they were desperate for transcriptionists after laying a bunch off and she was going to retire. It's not that doctors can't take notes but it's more efficient for someone to handle all the transcription that goes on in a place like a hospital. Thousands of patients every day, and offloading the transcription of charts and poo poo to someone dedicated to that task means the doctor has more time to see at least a few dozen more people each day. Same with faxing forms, drafting up requisitions and referrals. Centralized bureaucracy and administration, everyone hates it but it keeps our society running.

At the start of a Parliament, before any other work is done, the MPPs elect a Speaker by secret ballot. Any MPP (except for party leaders and cabinet ministers) can nominate any other MPP. Once a Speaker has been elected by majority vote, the MPPs who nominated them and seconded their nomination will escort them to the dais, where the Speaker’s chair is. It’s a long-standing tradition that the new Speaker feigns resistance as they are escorted, in honour of the dangerous history of the role. In the early days of the British House of Commons, the Speaker could be beheaded if the monarch didn’t like the news they brought from Parliament.
