Still can't figure out whether this is an actual movie or a bad advert for a boring theme park ride.

It's missing Del Toro's creature design and Ron Perlman. I won't comment on the dialog since the movie isn't out, but from the trailer it seems that may be a problem as well.

Hellboy 2 is still one of the most beautiful things put on film.

Salvation is well shot and has great production design. As long as you can suffer through the bad parts—when literally anyone is talking—there's a lot to like. Whereas Rise of the Machines is good for about 30 seconds at the very end.

Has public opinion actually turned around on the prequals? I thought it was just people comparing them to the new trilogy which has nothing going for it at all. The prequals are at least memorable and fun to some degree.

Not really. It's just that the folks who thought they were mostly garbage made fun of them for a few years and then never thought about them again. The only people who still really discuss them positively are going to be those who enjoyed them at the time, or people who watched them as kids who now have access to the internet. That's your cultural reassessment.

It looks like this is taking it in a different direction. First movie is worth watching, IMHO. You can skip the rest of them.

The second film is a good-faith attempt to capture the spirit of the original which I find succeeds and fails in equal measure. The third turns Pinhead into 90s Freddy Krueger. If you're ok with that it's perfectly acceptable popcorn entertainment. The rest are mostly ok examples of super low budget horror. Some interesting concepts, none of which could be described as good but it's only the most recent two (Revelations and Judgement) that are objectively garbage.

Tron 2 is one of the coldest, soulless movies. The most cynically packaged nostalgia garbage for aging genxers.

Oblivion is great though. Tom Cruise runs, jumps, rides a fast bike and is decades older than both of his partners. A totally pure, undiluted Tom Cruise movie experience. 10/10 would watch again.

Ultraviolet the movie is bad. Ultraviolet the tv show is both awesome and also the most late 90s a tv show could ever be.
