Hey guys here's a neat idea let's found out where this virus came from, huh? Maybe figure out how to prevent the next one? If it's a natural thing, great! Let the world's best scientific minds have a look at that totally natural occurrence. If it's a lab leak, well, that's a different conversation but the goal is the same - preventing the thing from happening again. "The country says no so why bother. Also it doesn't matter." "It's a racially charged issue, which makes not knowing more important than knowing." "I confidently believe X already, so logic has no sway over me and your skepticism of X causes me to argue in bad faith." Meanwhile the virus itself, biologically incapable of higher thought, appears to the the smarter opponent here, as we continue to own ourselves.

None of you know poo poo about anything, and neither do I. We choose (hopefully) smarter people who know about this poo poo and listen to them in order to parrot what they say to make ourselves sound smart and win petty arguments. WHO we choose to listen to is the foundation for the greatest internet slap fights of our time. I hope I'm not being radical here by saying I have relatively more trust for Fauci and his organization (NIAID) then I do China's specialists, Fox News, or anyone in this thread. I also trust big Johnny O, which is why I'm in this thread. I trust these people because they seem genuine, and haven't betrayed it yet. I also don't really have a better alternative. So by extension, I also choose to trust the rear end in a top hat in this article, because I have the same tenuous trust for the science people in Fauci's orbit, and a small amount of trust for the NYT (again, just slightly above all the other garbage options): https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/14/science/covid-lab-leak-fauci-kristian-andersen.html TL;DR: This one dude's professional hypothesis is that it likely didn't come from a lab. He thought it maybe did before, but thinks it's less possible now. But he draws no firm conclusions! Also, he says China's cooperation (especially pertaining to the nearby lab) would clear some stuff up. I believe this answer because it is: 1. Boring. 2. Cautious. 3. Logical. 4. Inconclusive. It's a scientist saying sciency things and it's all very on brand. So I guess this puts the ball in China's court? Cooperation would be great! Lets all work together to get to the bottom of this. ...Oh. They're not going to do that? Well then we should rightfully be calling them out for that! And doing so is not racist in the slightest, even if other people want the same thing for racist reasons. The actions of bad faith actors don't absolve China of their part in this, and being critical of China does not put you in bed with racists. Again, to be very clear - the virus doesn't give a poo poo. It has no benefit to us other than to sicken or kill. And yet we drag our feet, for "complicated geo-political reasons." gently caress outa here sure okay fucked around with this message at 23:27 on Jun 17, 2021 |

John getting extra heated about bail reform this week. That dipshit judge who raised bail just because the defendant wouldn't kiss his ring had me seein red Real talk though is there a single system invented by humans that doesn't have a hidden mechanism to punish the poor?

Tiggum posted:That's complete nonsense though. What you're doing is literally making up bullshit and padding it out to make it sound plausible. Your assumptions are unfounded and your numbers are made up out of nothing. You will not end up in the right ballpark, except through blind luck. The correct answer is to google it. You wouldn't tell BP to just "Google it" when they come to you with organizational problems. You tell them you'll save them billions with strategic realignments based on fact-checked data algorithms (aka layoffs and C-suite bonuses). The question is perfect for the kind of people McKenzie wants: A-type bullshitters who can polish the optics of a business wanting to launder their most selfish actions onto someone else. Getting to the correct number is not the point.

I feel like in the wild chance Clarence takes up the offer HBO would just increase Johns salary by a mil later on because the publicity from him doing that would be worth way more
