Seems ok to me. This is basically a picture thread anyway. Before and after pics of the winter goat grooming?

Wowwww. Hard to believe they come out so big and normal shaped, for some reason. Two in one night, too? Nice instincts!

Those portraits are amazing. I hope goons rise to this occasion and create some masterpieces to go with them. I feel like this deserves a GBS thread and a banner ad. Unless you want then you be just your works, of course, which is equally excellent.

It seems like the extra prongs could be more problematic biologically than the two horned variety. Is that off base?

This may be insensitive, but your wording made it sound like you might not have tried without an audience? Farm life is hard, so no judgement, just curious if what you did was standard procedure or not. He needs a name befitting his struggle to emerge. He's also super pretty.

I'm also glad for the serendipity of the moment that brought him to life. I nominate Serendipity for his name. It's maybe a girl's name, but I think he has time to decide what gender he wants to identify as.

Things was earlier today:Instant Jellyfish posted:It's Katelyn and her pickiness that's driving me bonkers. First she loved both babies, then decided she hated all babies, now she loves the ram and just sort of tolerates the ewe if it doesn't get too close. You had them, you have to feed them! She's being real flinchy when they move to her udder so I'm going to treat her for sub-clinical mastitis and see if that helps. She'll nurse them if she has to and I've set things up so she can't hurt them so I have time to work things out at least.

Instant Jellyfish posted:One of my original issues with electronet was that Jazz learned up to pick up the stakes with her horns and scoot under where her wool would insulate her. Other sheep would try her trick and get hopelessly tangled and/or kill themselves. Being 15 now she mostly just yells at me to open gates for her and wanders wherever she wants anyway so hopefully she isn't as motivated to mess with the fence. She hasn't yet encountered it because lately she has chosen to hang around in the barnyard or in the barn instead of grazing in the pasture with the commoners. Amazing. Jazz is 100% that bitch.

Life is hard on the farm and IJ has trained us to find beauty and keep memories close despite the often macabre functionalism of ranching. Two is still beautiful and useful despite his passing. I think they were just trying to suggest a fitting commemoration to avoid the feeling of discarding that beauty and wanting to keep Two's memory close by. Maybe IJ could speak to their thoughts better, that's just my take. ILL Machina fucked around with this message at 00:53 on Feb 23, 2021 |
