Once a month, we'll talk about a wrestling move and the wrestlers that do them. (I forgot to start this at the beginning of the month, wanted to do that since the last one started so late into a month...) This month's move: the powerbomb. Wikipedia posted:A powerbomb is a professional wrestling throw in which an opponent is lifted (usually so that they are sitting on the wrestler's shoulders) and then slammed back-first down to the mat. The standard powerbomb sees an opponent first placed in a standing headscissors position (bent forward with their head placed between the attacking wrestler's thighs). He is then lifted on the wrestler's shoulders and slammed down back-first to the mat. A prawn hold is commonly used for a pinning powerbomb. Who do you think has the best powerbomb in the history of the business? Do you like it as a finisher? What powerbomb variation is your favorite? Who does the best version of that move? To be honest, I have never really know what a good powerbomb should look like. I very much know what a bad one looks like, but if you eliminate those I wouldn't tell you decent from good. That being said, I do love me some Sami Zayn Blue Thunder Bomb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuvVNblNPFg

As a kid I loved Diesel's Jackknife Powerbomb, mainly because it looked so much like he didn't give a gently caress about hurting his opponent (obviously the opposite is true, but I was a dumb kid who thought it was real in the early 90s)

I get why he had to drop it after moving out of the Cruiserweights, but I alway dug Chris Jericho's double powerbomb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNPzOYmirQI

I am a big fan of Kenta Kobashi's Orange Crush Bomb https://twitter.com/narukiroy/status/986471140783804416?s=20 For a more straight forward powerbomb though, can't beat Vader. https://twitter.com/NINaylor/status/1017370127401091073?s=20 https://twitter.com/porksweats1/status/1162894407370190850?s=20 Something very wild and dangerous about his powerbomb.

I'm partial to Nash and Sid's power bombs. Nash just straight drops them flat on their back from 10 feet and Sid holds on to add extra impact. Both look real good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LAmw0s9AHU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ikIXrZ5xjg Video quality is mostly horrendous in this one but you get the idea.

big agree with Nash's jackknife powerbomb and that's probably my personal pick. i remember even in HCTP on PS2 it looked loving brutal. i've never really seen guys lift someone up so smoothly and as fast for a powerbomb like Nash did. maybe Batista comes close. stylistically, the Orange Crush Bomb looks so loving rad. also love Scott Hall's Razor Edge, which i think counts as a powerbomb? especially against smaller guys because those guys would just get crunched up when Hall drove'em to the mat.

Two of my favorites (Tenryu and Kawada) used the powerbomb often. Tenryu's were merely passable. Kawada put more onto his and made them credible as a finish despite lacking the size and power of a Nash or Vader. But oooof, the one he uses just after the 21 minute mark of this match: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5tovnb edit: Razor's Edge is a crucifix powerbomb, definitely counts

They only ever look good to me when they're being done by the rare people like Lesnar who are legitimately strong enough to repeatedly ragdoll their opponent; in most cases there's so much assistance necessary from the person taking the move to go back up that it makes the subsequent powerbombs look way less impactful than the first. Weird as it is to cite Benoit, this has always been one of my favorite powerbombs: https://twitter.com/bumpandfeed/status/1094292871891562498

The best powerbomb Nash ever did was the one he did in that stupid Elimination Chamber specifically because JR's call of it was quintessential JR and made me laugh like a loon no matter how many times I watched it.

I’m so pumped cuz I just watched a bunch of cool powerbombs! I think I’m starting to understand. - Jericho’s double power bomb. There's nothing unenjoyable about it but I'm with the poster that made the Lesnar point. I know it's not entirely fair, but I can't help it! - Oh My God how have I never seen Kobushi’s Orange Crush Bomb before? It’s so beautiful. Someone please bring it back. Please not Dolph Ziggler. - Vader’s power bomb is SICK!!! WHAT. It’s so scary looking. - Is Nash’s even a power bomb? He lifts them up with incredible speed into a powerbomb position then just straight up drops them. Very cool looking though. - Sid’s I could do without. I prefer Nash’s. Wait I take this all back, Sid’s kneeling power bomb owns. - Lord, Kawada’s power bomb in that match is incredible. - How could I forget Mike Awesome? The Awesomebomb was so good. For me what I liked about Jericho's Double Power Bomb was that it was clearly taking a lot out of him to do it, with the idea (for me at least) that he was expending a lot of effort to do it but if he could pull it off it would finish his opponent for good. Seeing somebody like Brock Lesnar do it is of course always a blast, but it never really feels like a particular struggle for him like it did for Jericho.

Seeing Sid do a power bomb for the first time blew my mind as a kid cause up to that point I only watched WWF and all the finishes tended to be low impact and Sid just went out and power bombed jobbers and I was like Dragon's Lee's Suplex into a Power Bomb is super sweet as seen around 4:17 of this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmjBJihwLsg

for some sick-nasty impact, I always liked Pegasus Kid/Wild Pegasus' snap powerbomb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp8oYqmCHgI Hmm, I wonder what ever happened to that guy? Oh well. I also really like Atsushi Onita's Thunder Fire Powerbomb, but I'm having a hard time getting a good clip of it because he was REALLY not consistent with it. So here's Great Sasuke doing his own badass take on it, instead! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=552KAjCbvkg I swear I saw Sasuke do a running variant on it, once, but the video quality was atrocious and I don't think I'd be able to find it now.

Sid's powerbomb was one of those weird ones where it just random how he'd do it. Sometimes he'd just lift you up and huck you. Sometimes it would be a bog-standard powerbomb. Sometimes he'd do the kneeling powerbomb that looked like he broke a dude in twain

I like a powerbomb that flows into a pin. My favorite is probably the Liger Bomb where he hooks the opponent's arms with his legs on the way down. The Soulful Powerbomb is a little wackier but he just lays his entire body weight on you. Anyway, here is the most disgusting powerbomb of all time: https://twitter.com/jocay19/status/820861368949678081?lang=en

Crap I can not understand professional wrestlers sometimes. "Ok, we do the thing where it looks like you're doing a top-rope powerbomb ok?" "Sounds rote but whatever" "But instead you jump out of the ring and give me whiplash and probably a concussion by bouncing by head off this thick-rear end top rope. And maybe I collapse in a heap on the outside because the wire knocked me the gently caress out" "The money we're making for this is so worth it. I'm in"
