Of course, she might even have liked Denji, if the offer was legitimate. He comes to the Soviet Union with her, does some work, gets a "normal" life with her by way of payment.

It's just that, with Makima in play, that couldn't happen. And getting the Chainsaw mattered a lot more than how some teenager Reze just met felt about things.

She pulls her pin out of her neck, which makes me wonder if maybe bomb devil replaced a different part of her body like her brain. Sword guy changed by unsheathing his hand, right? Maybe she can get multiple powers if she keeps replacing body parts.

People are definitely scared of water. Though it does raise the question whether the water demon, drowning demon and suffocation demon are distinct entities.

The only videos I like with Super Eyepatch Wolf are the one's he has done with Woolie (formerly of Super Best Friends). Those videos consist of them learning to hate one another as they playthrough Legend of the Mystical Ninja and another where everyone learns to hate him as he aggressively pushes Hunter x Hunter.

I feel like there is a common thread.

Pretty sure the woman has been the real Santa the whole time. The way the panels show Tolka and Granpa as being the same makes it clear that they were both "raised" by her.

It also makes more sense as generally women tend to be the real badasses in this manga.

The conversation at the beginning, particularly the "lower creatures of the earth" part, really gives weight to Makima being associated with a demon of divinity or god. Outside chance maybe the human demon.

Yoshida never said he's working for the government. He said it's not an evil organization like some manga, so it could be the government but we don't know.

Come to think of it, I wonder Chainsaw ate a piece of death too, which is why people seem a little blasé about murderous demons killing tons of people.

There's lots of stuff that's unanswered or ambiguous. Gun Devil was alive, then actually dead then alive again. Reze was his partner which implies he was hanging out in the Soviet Union, but he takes phone calls from the US President.

We never definitively found out who was behind Sawatari though I think like a lot of things you can pretty much fill in the blank with Makima did it and it works.

LostRook

Just checked. US had 20 percent, Soviets had 28 percent, China had 11 percent, other countries had 4 percent and 37 percent held by devils.

Pretty much all the political information comes from Makima, so who knows.

LostRook

Katana man becoming Katana man is what makes it likely to me that Makima was behind it. We've seen no one else with knowledge of hybrids, but at the end it turned out she had a collection of them.

I think she was threatening the Yakuza because that is what she does. She wants to erase criminals even if she's the one who set them up to be criminals.

The series as a whole eschews the usual mythologizing of the Yakuza to the point of showing outright disdain for everyone a part of it. It would make sense for Makima to embody that somewhat.

A lot of people get her characterization wrong.

Everyone likes to portray her as adorable feral girl, but a teenage girl's naked corpse in the woods has very specific connotations and they aren't adorable. She just took advantage of that because she's kind of a wimp.

Pochita was weakened, possibly not Denji. It's unclear if fear has an effect on hybrids, given that the bow, spear and sword hybrid are as strong as they are. Though that might just be a consequence of those weapons being more prominent post gun devil attack.

Kobeni, Kishibe and Quanxi all have exceptional, even supernatural, physical abilities that have never been explicitly revealed to be related to devil contracts. In fact the only thing we know about them with respect to deviltry is that Quanxi is a hybrid like Chainsaw/Katana, which may (or may not) raise questions about the other two.

Quanxi definitely gets hers from being a hybrid, in the same way Denji is able to hold and throw a car or fight leech semi-transformed. Certain aspects transfer through even without transforming, and someone who is at least 60 years old probably has the ability to hone it as much as possible

For Kobeni, my only guess is Namahage Devil because of her use of Denba knives and parent issues, though that might be a bit too specific for the series.
