Lariats are always awesome, but they definitely look best when thrown by guys with certain body types (either hugely jacked or just built like a tank). I've always thought Hansen and Kobashi were the gold standards, but I'm going to add Jumbo and Koloff to my list after this thread too. It also depends greatly on the guy taking it to sell/bump properly, which makes it kind of a tricky finisher to get over. Unless you just go the Hansen route and actually try to kill guys with it.

When I was a younger fan learning about indies by buying Highspots tapes back in the early 2000s, I remember getting an old MLW tape where the main event was Satoshi Kojima against maybe Taiyo Kea. The announcers were hyping up Kojima's deadly Lariat, a move name I'd never heard of. They were talking about guys he'd injured with it, and being an ECW/Indie Darling mark, I was like "Wow, a lariat must be some crazy piledriver or something." Imagine my surprise when the announcers treated a clothesline like it was a gunshot. At the time, I was underwhelmed. But now, as a refined, mature wrestling fan, I've come to appreciate the simple brutality of the humble lariat. (tho I still don't think Kojima's is anything revolutionary) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9R09BTKvGg

Lariats are hooked and clotheslines are stiff and straight. Lariats are cooler looking.

The month is coming to an end, which means we won't be able to talk about lariats ever again! Let's do it now. Which lariats stood out the most? Any fun new discoveries? Any regrettable missed great lariats? I loved this one. I already quoted it once but drat. Ringo Roadagain posted:Jumbo Lariat. I love the way he plants his feet. I love the way he sort of turns his head down like he is throwing a huge haymaker. And what a wonder it is to revisit Nigel's lariat

Shingo Takagi, very good There's one at about 3:50 of the video where Shingo murders Naito & just after the commentator yells PUMPING BOMBER someone laughs hysterically and it's wonderful. I'm now up to the clips from Shingo vs Big Tam & holy gently caress the G1 needs to happen every day. I'm getting tingles just watching this.
