https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mb3BkeeXlIo Just got this on YouTube. :eyes: Someone died trying to get their truck out. Tow ball failed and flew through the windshield, killing them. (only pictures of the broken windshield, nothing graphic, mostly just explaining the proper gear)

Remembering the time my brother-in-law and his idiot colleague had spent hours devising a method of pulling his boat off one corner of my mum's field with the winch on the colleague's 4WD. They'd obviously tried to use nearby trees to angle everything right, to avoid the ditches. I just went to the boat trailer, grabbed the beam (or whatever you call it in English), and pulled the thing onto the road. The tyres were all well inflated and (obviously) the field hadn't been tilled underneath so it wasn't even hard. The goobers didn't even thank me.

https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/1ci5p8f/they_still_use_timber_because_the_sound_warns_of/ I guess technically this isn’t OSHA, we’d be in MSHA territory at best, but regardless: holy poo poo that’s terrifying and why are they not booking it the gently caress further away, like how confident do you have to be in your assessment of how far out that collapse will reach?!

All that being said I wouldn't be standing there.

I would simply make the panels a conveyer belt that slowly rotates throughout the day and put a brush at the top

I saw a video showing both a failure and the aftermath with no content/trigger warning. Dude was crawling around on a hospital bed with his head looking like a horror movie and I can't ever unsee that. I've been pulled out with a chain on the ball and I got some bad shivers when I thought about it.

I wonder if they could fly over in a helicopter (or drone) and shoot them with high pressure compressed air. This looks like it's just dust, it should blow off. Maybe that would stir up so much more dust from the ground it wouldn't be productive, though? Dunno, there just has to be a more efficient process.

I am reliably informed that wind turbines are diesel powered, so you'd just have to run them a little harder for a bit. Seems like a good idea indeed.

GWBBQ posted:Update: the bridge is structurally unsound and I-95 will have to be closed near exit 14 for several days, diverting 190,000 vehicles per day on to local roads. US-1 is 2 lanes each direction and already carries over 19,000. The southbound entrance ramp currently averages 5400 and northbound averages 7600. That stretch of highway is already congested to the point that it approaches gridlock on weekends. This is going to be an absolute clusterfuck under the best possible circumstances. Don't worry, i have been assured by numerous people on twitter that highways increase traffic, so taking out I-95 will actually make things better for everyone driving around there
