Over the last few years Yokota has become one of my favorite mangaka, his art style is very striking and he loves to convey intensity and passion in his characters. His duo stories always have interesting plots to them and with his solo works he seems big on letting his casts shine which results in more of an ensemble feel. The best example of this is Sesuji wo Pin! which is his best work in my opinion. Bringing a dance sport series to Shonen Jump couldn't have been an easy pitch but this series nails it for the 9 volumes it got, this story is a rare one where my heart leapt at times and a couple of fist pumps were made.

Story is focused around a pair of freshmen joining their high school's dance team all the school's pairs are the focus. The timid, short, and novice Tsuchiya and Eri. The fiery latin centric 2nd years Yamaki and Tsubaki. And the nearly professional level 3rd years the Ronald McDonald looking Doigaki and his longtime partner and friend Rio. We meet many other duos and for the most part all of them get developed and properly motivated. The Main characters themsleves brush up against some real giants but handle it in their unique way.

The theme of the story could be summarized as "Dancing is fun" and conveys that earnestly through the cast and the several tournament arcs. I did a little ballroom dancing back in the day and reading this made me want to go back to it.

Also shout-out to one of the best side characters in a sports manga finally getting some proper credit. That one really knowledgable guy that sits in the stands all the time.

He is omnipresent and great to have around. Rarely seen without his subtitle.

Interesting! Out of curiosity, do you know how it compares to Ballroom E Youkoso? The premise sounds very similar, and that has been one of my favorite sports manga of the past decade.

...about the real life John Hawkwood?

Huh. The dude was famous for betraying basically everyone he ever worked for (some multiple times) and sacking his way through Italy and still ending his life as a wealthy Italian landowner. You know, typical mercenary stuff.
Interesting choice of adaptation.

...it's a really dumb soft-porn comic that transitions into a well-drawn martial arts battle manga with a tournament arc around chapter 50. Still with titties. I can't really recommend it without massive reservations.

Have I just been poisoned too much by manga? I can't think of Female Knight and the Kemonomimi Child as wholesome because of the way she keeps kissing him on the lips and her reaction to him biting her ear.

Oh, it's probably not. It caters to an unpleasant demographic. Still, the swords page was funny to me.

This is really cool btw, weird seeing a manga set in Alberta but it's really gorgeous.

On a similar note, there's Welcome To Hotel Metsäpeura, a manga about a hotel in northern Finland, which I find equally weird but pretty neat.
