Ah, but you missed the best part. The part where she immediately decides it has to be option 2.

Electric Phantasm posted:Are you saying the whole manga is like this? I am saying that... hmm. Under Ninja consists of an interleaving of wacky, cartoonish plot beats (orbital space lasers, brain transplants, shadowy ninja organisations pulling society's strings, AI motorcycles) with a sort of vulgar, earthy slice of life scenes acted out by a cast of oddball deadbeats, all granted the exact same weight and importance by the framing, and presented in this subdued, realistic, almost documentarian mode. The sum effect of which, at least for me, is this weird, floaty, dislocated mood permeating everything, and the sense that I'm not so much reading a coherent narrative but rather being witness to a series of loosely connected events (even though a coherent narrative is occurring, probably). That sounds like it should be a flaw, but it isn't somehow? And so when I'm reading it my reaction to every new development is "hahahaha what" or "hahahaha okay", regardless of what it actually is. Rooftop gyaru vs ninja fistfight? Sure. Secret television channels broadcasting propaganda gorn? Cool. Flashback to ninja high school where everyone is wandering around in seifuku and ski masks? Got it. We're getting an adaptation in October and I'm incredibly curious as to how it's going to feel in motion.

A jargogle posted:I might be stupid but is there a big chunk in the middle missing on mangadex? There's a story here. What happened was, the official publisher of the series, BiliBili, decided they were going to start putting out their own English translation. That led to the original fan translation group, LunaLotus, dropping the project. Then, after like two years of chapters or whatever, the official translation just... stopped updating. A little while after that it disappeared, both from the BiliBili site and mangadex. I guess whatever numbers it was doing weren't the sort of numbers whoever was in charge of it wanted to see? So the bad news is that those chapters are no longer anywhere you might prefer to read them. The good news is that, since this is the internet, they all got scraped and rehosted by the aggregator sites, and you'll find them immediately if you google the series.

Sindai posted:At around chapter 60 the only translations I can find go completely to poo poo and half the time don't even make sense as english. Is there a decent version anywhere? This appears to have them: https://vyvymanga.net/manga/song-of-the-sky-walkers In miserably low resolution, of course. Depressing.

I think the plot of this might drive me fully insane. "My girlfriend wants me to come watch her basketball match at the other end of the country, but I can't afford the travel expenses. Guess I have no choice to go on a paid date with my creepy stalker that I hate!" No! Just talk to your girlfriend! Just have a conversation! Just open your lips and use your human words!! You are failing logic by porn standards for God's sake. I'm glad the author is having fun, though.

It's a real basic recurring gag, but I love Bayashiko and her impenetrable dome. Steel plated, bulletproof, impervious to all attack. One day the aliens are going to come destroy the Earth and that noggin is going to be the only thing left, floating pristine and unbothered through the void. God bless our idiot daughter e: doomrider7 posted:Gushing About Magical Girls

You see this impeccably Oku-esque art and these creepy alien designs and this formless dread opens up in the pit of your stomach. Then a child walks through a wall because she runs on gag manga physics and you go, ah, everything's going to be alright.

Very funny to me that Nihei's response to his daughter telling him he should have made a cool manga like Shingeki was to do his usual thing but with waifus. Funnier still that it worked. I guess anything can be a hit if you put enough panty shots in it. e: The coolgirl shitkicker squad looks cool though. Bet Glasses there owns.
