I watched "In The Earth" recently after being made aware it exists - it was okay. I like that Wheatley is working in this really specific vein of English folk-horror but the pandemic stuff in had aged badly. Reece Shearsmith was fantastic though.

Basically what I was going for.

My line of thought was Tetsuo The Iron Man except as box art for a FMV adventure game circa 2000.

I'd say you absolutely nailed it. That with a little Front 242 video thrown in.

Here’s my list for 2022 releases: https://boxd.it/jGfR6

I still want to watch Banshees, Tar, Decision to leave, Babylon, and some others but here’s my current top 10:

1. Everything everywhere
2. Northman
3. Top gun Maverick
4. Avatar the way of water
5. Nope
6. Three thousand years of longing
7. Fabelmans
8. RRR
9. petite maman
10. GDT Pinocchio

Im a new parent now, so going to the theater has been challenging. So I am not too surprised my top 4 are all ones I got to see on the big screen.

Yeah and for some context, I didn’t care for X much at all. Pearl is easily my favorite thing Ti West has done and it’s not really close.

I’m so happy to see Sciamma’s films getting love here.
Haven’t seen Tar or Top Gun yet

Favourites:
Tier 1
Close
Banshees
Fabelmans
The Son
Broker
Decision to Leave

Tier 2
Glass Onion
3000 Years of Longing
No Bears
Aftersun
Triangle of Sadness
God’s Creatures
The Asakusa Kid
RRR
Elvis

Athena - flawed but a lot to admire
I enjoyed Catherine Called Birdy
The Wonder was Ok
Empire of Light is immaculate. So much so that it’s dead. I felt the same about 1917. (My wife disagreed)
EO. I admired what it was trying to do but it doesn’t quite succeed.
I liked Brian and Charles. Small, sweet film
Hustle was surprisingly enjoyable and well done, even for someone who isn’t at all interested in basketball

We often watch films over two nights or it gets too late. This is a useful test in some ways: is a film worth continuing?
Films that failed:
Where is Ann Frank?
Pinocchio
I am sure there are some others.

You all have real good lists but there is a notable lack of We’re All Going to the World’s Fair in them.

I think technically it is a 2021 movie and usually I am very particular about that (the end-of-year lists in UK media drive me mad for this reason) but it premiered at Sundance and then nothing happened to it for literally over a year so
