Oh snap! I saw a mock up of this like 2 years ago, pumped that it's happening. A happy moment even! Edit: page snipe

Ran across this Danchira photo on Twitter and thought it made a pretty good wallpaper... https://twitter.com/ChieTzai/status/1780493371020300383?t=UIKhLUvixGZ__NKUUwwTyg&s=19

Looks incredible!!! Definitely will try to get in on this one. Anecdotally, I keep google docs with different ideas for different stuff, and a Sofubi of a Planetoid / Saturn monster is something I've brainstormed on there. I'd envisioned it as a bipedal monster with the planet making up the bulk of the body, the rings slung around the shoulder ala Andre the Giant. Not exactly the same, but still, funny to see something similarish pop up.

Dang that’s a good collection especially since it includes the header cards WITH the points. I wonder what the reserve is.

GATOS Y VATOS posted:Crafsman has successfully made home-made sofubi using rotocasting and silicone molds! Wait what. Also, I wish this was something I could do with the GF’s littles. They love monsters and making some and painting them sounds like a goddamned blast. Also, I enjoy making figurines and painting them. This is highly relevant to my own interests.

Haven't had a chance to watch the Craftsman video yet, but that's really cool. That pile of molds is crazy. Are those discarded? If someone wants something do they dig through that to find the mold?

S.W.O.R.D. Agent posted:Haven't had a chance to watch the Craftsman video yet, but that's really cool. Yeah when a figure is put on the back burner and not made for a long time they end up in a pile like this. So if one wants to make new castings of a sofubi that hasn't been made in a long while you gotta go through the pile and find the molds. I have a bad feeling that my Lulu molds are on the bottom of one of these piles, but I honestly haven't had the money to get new colors made in a couple years now. Of course, I have a stockpile of colors that I haven't even painted yet due to anxiety. edit: also at the end of that video Crafsman sets up an experiment where he mixes copper granules to the 2 part silicone at a 1-1-1 ratio. Well in his patreon he's announced that it is initially successful, and will experiment further with it. And talking about home made sofubi- look at THIS wild poo poo: a guy is 3-D printing molds and using those. Neat parts: he can make a mold in a few hours and he actually uses COOKING OIL as the heat source to cure the vinyl. In my opinion bad part: the molds are only single use because you have to break them apart to remove the sofubi. Interestingly he sells his "Kitchen Sofubi" with parts of the molds so it kind of looks like armor. https://x.com/japantoyfactory/status/1722933035669323964 So Crafsman and I talked about doing his copper silicone molds and trying to cure the vinyl in hot oil like the Kitchen Sofubi guy did. I think he's trying that now. I'm excited to see how it goes! GATOS Y VATOS fucked around with this message at 16:35 on May 4, 2024 |

I can't remember who it was, but I think somebody here was talking about wanting the OG color Mondo Jet Jaguar a while ago? All of Mondo's JJ's are marked down, including the Megalon 'variant'. I can't tell the difference between it and the original colorway; I think the red/yellow/blue may be a bit brighter?

It would be wild if someone cracked the code so to speak and people were able to make these from their home. I'm not into 3D printing so I've got no idea how economical single molds would be, but still rad that's an option. I wound up with the gold JJ and would love the standard colorway. Hopefully it lasts until I can swing it.

Jimminy! There's a lot of innovation going on! Looping back on something I remembered a few pages back. I couldn't remember who was doing B-movie monsters, and the one I was thinking of was Kazumitsu Akamatsu-san, under the Skull Butt Head banner: http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/skull-head-butt-b-movie-space-monsters.42253/
