Netflix is constantly telling me to rate things and I hate it. I don't know if any of you remember, but Netflix used to have a star system. I rated everything I watched, starting when I got disc Netflix back in 2007. One day they just chucked the whole thing in the trash. No warning. Years of ratings, gone. I will never forget that, Netflix. I will never rate anything on your platform again.

Everyone, including me, wants what we very much can't have: the Netflix of the early 2010's. It was awesome!

I'd been rating things for a decade when they got rid of the star system and I was starting to get spooky good recommendations. Now it's just waving trash in front of my face and insisting I take it like I'm a fat tourist who's just gotten off a cruise ship in a Caribbean port.

Weekly releasing has won. Splitting seasons into two parts has won. 2-3 year delays between seasons have won. I hate it all so much but fine, whatever, I can accept it. I'll just stick to bingeing when seasons are over. I just wish it was easier to find out when a season finale of a show is without getting spoiled.

I'm looking forward to the One consolidated streaming service, which will presumably have a plus tier that you pay for by giving them your bone marrow and an ad-supported tier which you pay for by giving them your blood plasma.

The depiction of Brida, a character who is given chance after chance at redemption, who simply and stubbornly cannot help repeating self-destructive patterns of behavior and ways of thinking formed by trauma, who just constantly ruins everything, hits a little too close to home for me and some other people.

The Voices actively plays on your existing Ryan Reynolds assumptions. It toys with its audience like a cat with a mouse.

I have a very low level Vizio TV from 4 years ago, and some janky-rear end internet service, and it's incredible the difference between the various apps: Hulu, Apple TV+ - They absolutely hate my TV. They'll play maybe one episode of a show, maybe, then completely poo poo the bed for no reason I can see. HBO MAX, Disney+, Paramount+ - These mostly seem to be friends with my TV, though occasional arguments arise. Netflix, Prime Video - They just play stuff with no backtalk and it's great. No errors, no buffering, no poo poo.

I'll just be watching Hulu on the Vizio for a while and then all of a sudden it'll go "that's all the television there is" and just stop working for an indeterminate amount of time. Completely and totally stop working. I've either got to give up on that movie or show or pull out my tablet/phone and use that. Somewhere around a half hour to 2 hours later Hulu will decide to work again. It's the darndest thing.

I'm glad I quit watching in mid season 2. I get more grouchy about this crap the older I get. I don't want mysteries, I don't want cliffhangers, I don't want dangling threads, I just want everything wrapped up nice and neat. Real life has enough mysteries and intangibles already, I don't need that in my fiction.
