I had mine done 3 weeks ago. No scalpel, no clips, just removing a piece of the vas and cauterizing both ends. It was mildly uncomfortable, but nothing too bad (I’d do that again over a root canal any day). I was good by day 6 or 7 with mild pain at worst.

About 1 week after this post I had an experience similar to what Oldsrocket_27 just described. Quick onset pain (4-5) in my left testicle, and the pain radiated upward into my abdomen. I also felt pretty nauseous. No fever or pain urinating (which can be signs of infection). After 2-3 days it hadn’t let up, so I sent my provider a message. They said it was probably a granuloma. I took some ibuprofen and iced, and the pain eventually dropped down to a 2 after a few days, and gradually resolved over the next week. Hasn’t recurred yet. Not fun but not terrible and wouldn’t have changed my decision (pretty much any non-chronic issue wouldn’t).
