How do I make sense of the “Maximum Capacity” readout on the Battery Health setting page?

My XR reads 85%. Does that mean, all things being equal, my phone has 15% shorter battery life against another XR with a new battery if they’re performing the same battery drain benchmark?

Nope! It’s not linear, it follows its own weird battery magic science. Typically people find iPhone batteries useless in the low 80s.

Is the Apple clear case the best clear case to get? It doesn’t really protect the bottom of the phone but apparently it doesn’t yellow either?

It’s historically bad and cracks easily, Spigen makes a couple of clear cases that you can buy multiple of if it yellows and still not pay as much as one Apple case.

So I’m on a 11 Pro, and with Verizon’s offer of $800 for trade in, I’ve seriously been debating on going to a 14 Pro, but now I’m even thinking/tempted by the 14 Pro Max.

Has anyone gone from one of the standard size Pros to a Pro Max and have feedback on it?

I had a 6+ then a 8+, but so much of the size was take up by non-screen elements that when I went to the 11 Pro, it seemed like such an improvement.

The +’s always seemed big, and I know the Pro Max is about that size, but having it be all screen seems so nice…

The size isn’t a problem. The Max line isn’t actually that much larger than the standard models, you can compare them at phonearena.com.

The bigger deal, imo, is the weight. The Max’s are heavy as gently caress. It’s my one gripe with my 13PM.

I feel like the 11 Pro was probably my favorite form factor. If I had it to do over again, I’d go with the standard 13 Pro. You don’t get that much more size, and the battery life difference, while measurable, isn’t necessary as the regular Pro gets more than enough.

e: also I know they need to have space for 5g antennas, but bring back rounded edges. Feels better in the hand.

You can just walk in, they don't really seem to enforce appointments anymore though can make one if you want to.

My XS is at 89% battery health. I have an upcoming trip planned and honestly I just want to give it the most chance of making it through the day as I possibly can while I wait for the USB-C phone.

Deep down I’m wondering how accurate that 89% is. I feel like any significant use of the phone from 6am (podcast, an hour of web browsing on my commute in, imessages every now and then) and I’m looking for a charger by maybe noon. Using GPS and maps and such will definitely not help.

I think right now I’m just trying to curb my expectations on how much “better” it will be after an OEM swap. I expect all the OS updates since the XS came out have made it heavier on usage overall, so I think I should just be prepared to not get any SIGNIFICANT improvement and still just stay on a battery bank the entire time to play it safe.

Not sure I have a question, guess I’m just soliciting thoughts..

Battery health is not linear. 89% health does not mean that your phone reaches 89% of its day 1 charge capacity. It’s much worse.

Don’t wait for a USB-C iPhone, because it is not a given that one will launch in 2023, and even if it does in some places it might not in your region (Apple is just fine machining different chassis for different regions already, see: the SIM tray on the 14).

The laws don’t require it in the EU until 2024, IIRC, and even then Apple might roll the dice on portless if they think they can get away with it.

Law 1 of phone buying is buy a phone when you need a phone. It sounds like you need a phone, tbh.

e: depending on the price/availability where you are you could also just get a battery replacement while waiting.

You can compare footprint size and weight (and specs) on https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/.

I would not get an SE over a 13 Mini purely due to battery life. Without fact-checking myself, I’m fairly sure the Mini is smaller, lasts longer and has a bigger screen. The SE is the phone for grand-parents and children.

Result:

Wifi enabled, with 300 Mbps broadband subscription: 250-300 Mbps. Not bad.
Wifi disabled: 760 Mbps.

Now, the only question is, what the hell does one use 700 Mbps for, on a phone?

Disclaimer: I am a long-time Android user and have little knowledge of, and a good bit of distaste for, iPhones. However, my daughter has one, so here's a question --

My daughter has an iPhone SE (2022) 64GB. She also has 200GB of iCloud storage. Of the iCloud storage, about half is free.

BUT, her phone is constantly out of room, to the point that she's deleted apps and photos and still is constantly out of room.

This is something that I've never run into with Android, and I don't know how to fix it. What are best memory management practices? Shouldn't things automatically be backed up to the iCloud account and space freed up on the phone? If that's not automatic, is it an option?

check the phone's storage breakdown. if it's mostly a ton of system data taking up most of the phone, then it's probably a bunch of backups.

i'm not sure what the best solution is beyond wipe and set up as new and resync but if that's the case at least you can start googling other solutions.
