To Russia, it makes it look like Ukraine couldn't have the capacity to actually shoot the aircraft down, so Ukraine doesn't have any weapons worth fretting about and thus is weak enough to, in theory, be ripe for getting annihilated in 3 days by lacking AA systems. None of this actually helps Russia save face when more Russian aircraft falls out of the sky no matter the cause, of course.
