THE LEAGUE: https://sleeper.com/i/jKABMnJQEzOo

Impossibly Perfect Sphere posted:

And you can only draft players who have been on an AFCE team.

Okay.

Here's the thread for a best ball, 1 PPR league where you can only draft players that have played on an AFC East team.

FAQs

Scoring?
It's best ball, which means you don't need to set a lineup each week; you just draft a bunch of players at the beginning and your score will be whatever lineup you can put together with the highest possible score.

Each week we'll start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 FLEX (WR/RB/TE), 1 K, 1 D/ST.

Scoring is pretty normal all around except QBs are 0.02pts per yard and only 4 points for passing TDs. 1 PPR and normal rear end default settings for everything else. Check the Sleeper page for more details.

Who can I draft?
Only players who have played in the AFC East, of course! Our definition for "played in the AFC East" is any player who was active on game day for at least one regular season game OR a player that is at the time of the draft pick on an AFC East team in any capacity (including rookies and I'll even extend it to guys like Andy Isabella who are technically on their teams right now even though they're almost certainly getting cut or practice squad-ed).

For D/ST, going to go with anyone on the current defensive roster who has been on an AFC East team. I assume that's, like, all teams. Just identify a player when you make the pick.

How do I make the picks?
Post them in the thread; I'll have to go in and enter them all manually eventually. You'll have 12 hours to make the pick in the earlier rounds, but at some point as the season gets closer, I might arbitrarily reduce the limit. Please make the pick as soon as you can, though. I don't want this to drag.

In the event that you miss your pick, the next person (and subsequent people) in line can jump you, like that thing that happened to the Vikings that one time…

quote:

I'm going to treat the draft clock like the IRL draft clock, where if you don't make your pick in time, the other players can jump you.

So, if for example Bjork doesn't make their pick on time, taste is free to make theirs. If taste makes their pick and Bjork still doesn't make theirs, kalesc can still make their pick, etc. Bjork would still be free to eventually make their pick at any time, but they obviously wouldn't be able to pick players that other people have made.

Anyway just make your picks as quickly as you can because I'd rather not deal with any of this tomfoolery and I want things to go as smoothly as possible. Please don't take the full 12 hours if you can reasonably avoid it.

If you just totally check out and are unresponsive, I'll fill your roster arbitrarily. If it's in early rounds and I'm worried about competitive balance, I might try to salvage the team for competitive purposes; if it's later on in inconsequential picks, you'll probably get Tebow.

How many rounds are we going?
I currently have it set to 18 in Sleeper but the final number will be as deep as we can get in the time limit (i.e., the start of the regular season). I'd love to get REAL deep to the point where we're drafting players that aren't even on active rosters anymore if the good lord allows it.

What about Dalvin Cook? What about another player that's currently a FA?

You can draft Dalvin Cook, but if he doesn't end up signing with an AFC East team by September 7 at 9:00 AM, he will fetch you 0 points for the entire season. Other free agents that have had at least one reported meeting with an AFC East team are also eligible to be drafted with the same qualifiers.

Hey, something here isn't fair…
You're playing in a league where you can only draft AFC East players and there's no money involved. Things will be really dumb and all I request is that no one gets too bent out of shape about anything. I'm doing my best here!

And Tannehill! Honestly 7 QBs as Week One starters is kind of remarkable for a division that's historically totally sucked at choosing them.

Might still be a chance that the advantage picks 1-3 or 4 have at QB will be offset by them needing to rely on WR1 Jakobi Meyers.

Impossibly Perfect Sphere posted:

Taylor Heinicke! I assume we're not doing QBs.

Question is, can we include dudes who were signed but never played? Like if a guy was on the practice squad for two weeks and then cut does that count?

Is there a good source to find all the players who were ever signed by a team?

We are definitely doing QBs.

And criteria for "on an AFC East team" I think will be active on game day for at least one regular season game or a rookie currently on the team in any capacity.

Not entirely sure how it will all play out, but it wouldn't be Allen/Meyers vs Hoyer/G Wilson. It'd be, like, Allen/Meyers versus G Wilson/Waddle. People who draw the short straws for the QB (I assume) would try to make up the deficit by getting the few actual good WRs and RBs and not taking lotto ticket Hoyer's until later rounds.

If the D/ST has a player that has played on an AFC East team (using the same criteria from above), they're good. I assume that's most teams?

ANYWAY, Bjork Blowjob, you're on the clock. You have until 10:30 PM tonight to make your pick.

Here's a link to the league for the rest of the scoring settings: https://sleeper.com/i/jKABMnJQEzOo
^^^ everyone ITT sign up for it there

Don't worry about the scheduled draft time; once we're done with the draft in the thread here, I'm just going to input all the selections manually and start the league.

(Also, I looked into Yahoo and it didn't look like there was a way to do a private best ball league, so I stuck with what I knew.)

Added some rules and stuff to the OP. One subtle change about what qualifies as an "AFC East" player…

quote:

Our definition for "played in the AFC East" is any player who was active on game day for at least one regular season game OR a player that is at the time of the draft pick on an AFC East team in any capacity (including rookies and I'll even extend it to guys like Andy Isabella who are technically on their teams right now even thought they're almost certainly getting cut or practice squad-ed).

Not as tidy a rule as it was previously, but I realized the old definition would preclude someone from selecting players like Aaron Rodgers or Allen Lazard who are almost certainly going to be playing on AFC East teams this year but do not technically have a game accrued for them. So yeah, short of it is "on an AFC East team right now or active on game day for regular season game in the past."

Yeah I was actually thinking about Cook earlier and wasn't entirely sure what to do. My take was going to be to just let whatever person happened to be on the clock when Cook signed get a potentially large advantage via dumb luck, but I guess that could theoretically discourage people from making their picks quickly (ahem, Bjork).

Docjowles posted:

Allow it but if they don't end up signing in division they count for 0 points?

I've never used Sleeper so I dunno if this is possible/obnoxious with their commish tools. Can you edit a roster and drop him?

I kind of like this idea; you could draft Cook (or other FAs) whenever but if he ends up signing somewhere non-AFCE, you blew the pick. Kind of like betting on an injured player or holdout era Le'Veon Bell.

But that said, I want the spirit of the draft to be drafting your Jamison Crowder's, not taking flyers on a bunch of Zeke Elliot's and Carson Wentz's.

Any other ideas? I'll come down one way or the other before Cook becomes a tempting selection.

Oh, and Dalvin Cook ruling. Hoping this isn't too convoluted, but here's where I landed…

---

Wordy rationale: I like the idea of a high risk pick with a chance of a high (or this league anyway) payout and Cook could likely be a big player in the AFC East this year. Would be weird if he ends up being a major contributor that no one would have him. It also makes sense to extend this courtesy to other FAs; if, for example, we find out Hunt or Elliott is close to signing with one of our teams over the next week, we'd probably want them in the league.

But, as I mentioned before, I don't want later rounds to just become a series of lotto tickets on players that have nothing to do with the division. So, I want to see at least one demonstrated connection to an AFC East team before allowing them to be drafted. (So, yes, Ezekiel Elliott is eligible to be drafted, if and when you want to go there.)

The September 7 cutoff is for my own sanity. I don't want to manually change scores every single week of a cadre of players that will almost certainly never be eligible for points. If you pick Cook and he ends up signing with the Cowboys instead, I'm not going to put Cook on your roster; I'll just assign you a player substitute that will almost assuredly be a 0 every week. So, I know there exists a chance that an Elliott could sign in Week Two or Three on an AFC East team, but you still will never get that credit because he hadn't signed by September 7.

This league really shouldn’t have defenses….

Yes it should and you're up. (You can draft a D/ST with former AFC East players.)

With pick 3.12, I'm taking Dawson Knox, TE, BUF.

And with pick 4.01, I'll take Jason Myers, K, ex-NYJ.

Look, the kicker run is happening soon and I'm not going to tempt fate and risk going without one.

By my count, there are only seven eligible kickers that are starters for a team. They probably net you like an average of like 8 points a week.

A Corey Davis or Khalil Shakir caliber receiver will probably average like 5 or 6 points a week (with more dramatic peaks and valleys) and there's way more of them. AND they're more likely to get hurt, heh.

Btw, haven't said as much yet, but really appreciate you all making this work and being so on top of making the picks. Really hoping we can keep this momentum even as we get to the stage of hoping we can coax Le'Veon Bell out of retirement.

If it's ever easier for any of you for whatever reason to send a queue of picks my way via PM (like tarbrush and TheBizzness did over the weekend), feel free to do that as well.

ANYWAY, Quiet Feet, chop chop!

That was the last one I had on my list. I think now you'd have to hold out hope that someone signs Cody Parkey or Steven Hauschka comes out of retirement.
