Toni gave her nothing in that match and they keep trying to wrestling the catch as catch can wrestling while being slow and bad at it. Toni was wrestling with more power than her when she's bigger than Toni??

I thought Swerve should've won, why do we have to draw this out longer I have no idea.

Sting should've lost, idc ,idc. I'm his biggest fan but him winning made my eyes roll. It's bad enough he's undefeated but now are gonna have another ...sigh... tournament for the titles. The whole thing was really veering into self indulgence.

Will and Take was great but like every other match should've ended earlier and way too much getting beat the gently caress up but I'ma just hop right back up like nothing happened.

Oh and Kingston still sucks.

I'm 99% sure I'm the biggest Sting mark on this site, and wouldn't even watch wrestling if it wasn't for him but he's been done since TNA and nothing he did since really matters or added anything to his legacy. I was good with his ending in WWE as bad as it was. He should've just stayed retired if he was just gonna come and do more "the bad guys didn't let me win enough" booking. He has no real history in this company other than falling off stuff onto dudes. This felt like a long grift for a bit more money and to help Cody out.

I didn't even need him to go to WWE. He is cooked. I don't need my legends to go one more time or have one more run. Just let it be. I didn't really like Austin having a match, every Rock return gets less and less for me, Taker and HBK were just as egregious.

There's a lot you can unpack in this situation regarding structures of power and oppression but it all feels a little too highbrow for the politics of pro wrestling, but you're dead on. Like, the Triple H comment alone - back when he was calling it a "pissant company" it was bitter and stupid, but sort of easy to laugh off. Now when he's actively targeting other workers in the industry by claiming they don't have the #GRINDSET or are somehow lesser for not wanting to work for them when there's an established alternative out there, I think it's totally right for people to get defensive about it. Something, something, the paradox of tolerance. In a week we got the Punk podcast, Triple H burying Mercedes and Ospreay, Rossy and Regal at the NXT show, Punk making fun of Ospreay's All In tattoo, and countless more little moments on top of all the usual bullshit grifter podcast nonsense and the nasty poo poo AEW constantly has to face from every corner of the internet, all because they dare to be a successful wrestling company with fans in a market where the company that will always be on top is, yes, still on top. I'm amazed Tony hasn't just started tweeting "shut the gently caress up and jump off a bridge" towards anyone and everyone when you consider the poo poo he goes through.

The victim complex is crazy. So when AEW was dunking on them during the 'war" or taking all those shots on TV or every time Tony goes on a coke twitter spree its cool? When Punk was making GBS threads on WWE its was fine but now that's hes making GBS threads on AEW he should be burned alive? So weird. Poor Tony can't just play with his toys in peace he has to face repressions and comments for things he does. Boo hoo. NOBODY else has ever had to face these hardships EVER online. Dunk on WWE cuz they're dumb and bad but don't dare dunk on my AEW! I've attached my self worth to this and I can't be embarrassed that its actually bad too.

quote:

I know that Copeland's promo was polarizing, but I keep going back to the sincerity in his voice as well as the post he made after the Cardona match. I won't pretend to know what he's thinking or going through, but if you read between the lines it really seems as though he's having his own Chris Jericho moment of "wait, a lot of what I've been told about wrestling isn't totally accurate, and there really is more to life than this. This can be better". And the idea that pro wrestling as a whole could be better is so bizarrely scary to so many people for reasons I don't think I'll ever understand.

Oh nevermind either you'll trolling or VERY willfully ignorant.

It doesn't matter what way the punch is going. It was dumb when WCW did it on top and when they were behind. The whole company is giving me WCW 2.0 vibes. Which is crazy how much they talk poo poo about Eric and WCW when going through the same motions with way less achievements. I thought it would be at least a better TNA but it can't even do that.

C. Everett Koop posted:

This is genuinely the dumbest thing this pathetic company has done and that covers a lot of ground.

The best case scenario is that this is a bait and switch and AEW leaked this to try and undermine Wrestlemania. To that point, 1) lol all the tickets are sold and the money's been made, 2) either all of the journalists are in on this work as well which destroys what little credibility they have left, or 3) they're working the journalists and the WB execs which only desperate people do (and given the ratings they're more than likely desperate as all get out).

From a surface, story level, what does this accomplish? Does it get the Bucks more heat? No, they weren't involved in the confrontation. Does it build up their match with FTR? Barely, if the concept is 'you were friends with someone who isn't here anymore" and that's a weak context. If it's to bring back Jack Perry, then loving lol because Perry is someone who wasn't worth a poo poo before, isn't worth a poo poo now, and won't be worth a poo poo in the future. I don't know if Perry's suspension was mentioned on TV before but even if it was, showing Perry being choked by Punk is the weakest way possible to bring him back. "Hey, this guy got his rear end kicked by a much bigger star, come watch the guy who got his rear end kicked!" That'll put butts in the seats.

So the real meat and potatoes is on the meta-level, which is AEW, being the Bucks and Tony, are still incredibly butthurt over Punk and are wanting to get back at him. The Bucks hate that Punk ethered them in public and then kicked both their asses with one arm, then refused to do the right thing and work with Punk to draw money and benefit everyone on the card. If you're in a leadership role, which supposedly the Bucks are even though they shouldn't be, sometimes you have to swallow your pride and own selfishness and do what's right to benefit the greater goal. Omega/Bucks vs. Punk/FTR with the real life hostilities as background is something that could have drawn attention and money and turned a negative into a positive and benefitted everyone. The Bucks are going to be fine financially no matter what, but for all of the people who were upset that Tony actually let people go, you don't have to do that if you have a finanically-profitable program that benefits the entire card. The people on top draw so that the people on the bottom earn and hopefully develop into people who can one day be on top and keep the cycle going. If the people on top refuse to draw money, everyone suffers.

As for Tony, he's showing again that he's far too thin-skinned to be in any kind of leadership position to any degree. He's failed at conflict resolution, he's failed in being able to make positives out of negatives, he's failed at leadership, he's failed at the most basic of PR, he's failed as a wrestling booker and as a person in general. He's someone who got to where he is not by virtue of his talent or abilities but by virtue of being a proud member of the Lucky Sperm club. His value to society is nil at best and a net negative in all reality.

CM Punk is gone from AEW. He's not going to draw ratings or money for them anymore. Punk viewed his time in AEW as so disasterous that it caused him to reflect on his time with WWE and realize that it wasn't so bad. Punk was the one person that Tony wanted more than anyone else, more than Cody or Omega or the Bucks. Bringing Punk back was to be Tony's crowning achievement, and that Tony then proceeded to squander said achievement to the point where Punk is now actively drawing money for his opposition is something he can't get over. Tony has no one to blame but himself but he'll do everything he can to blame Punk for Tony's own failings like a jiltered lover.

And in terms of "punching up," Tony doesn't get to punch up. He's got access to irresponsible amounts of wealth, none of which he earned on his own merits. He will never want for anything in his life. If/when this company implodes on its own hubris he'll still have multiple roofs over his head. He will never suffer any real consequences for his actions unless his father does the right thing and disowns his failson and forces Tony to actually try and succeed on his own merits, of which he has none.

Punk signing with AEW was the highwater mark for this company. Brawl Out was the end of the honeymoon and Punk quitting was the beginning of the end. Once the final chapter of the AEW book is written, which is coming sooner than later, this sad stunt will be another checkpoint on the decent to insolvency.
