The anime was following the manga version of the story rather than the LNs, and the manga hasn’t gotten as far, but that seemed to be a compressed version of the ending to the first LN and not anything anime original. It does leave a few open hooks to adapt volumes 2+ if they ever do get more seasons

It’s definitely not following the web novel, it’s pretty identical to the manga’s story for the chapters that are out, and you can tell because the manga version of Alicia is much different from how she is in the LN, and the demon lord stuff plays out differently then the LN as well.
