I have a former coworker I still have occasional contact with. Not in medicine but a practicing scientist, very intelligent guy. Absolutely went anti-vaxx brokebrained over COVID and I can't have any conversation with him about anything without him bringing up vaccines. Last time I listened he was saying that COVID vaccine isn't a vaccine, it's a "therapeutic". His proof? You can still get COVID even if you're vaccinated. Dude has a PhD and was primarily responsible for getting me my first job out of grad school. Somehow he poisoned his brain so hard he doesn't understand how vaccines work anymore.

Would be interesting to see that done on a global map of country deaths vs. right-left political alignment (with all the usual caveats of that being a reductive political analysis). It was illustrative here in Ireland where we had half the per-capita death rate of neighbouring Britain, despite sharing a land border, and having genetically and demographically comparable populations. The difference seemed to be Ireland actually taking lockdowns seriously, and not being as thoroughly socially hollowed by decades of austerity as Britain.
