Unilateral ability of the president to shut down the border completely

When they say "the border" what does that mean? The land border with Mexico? Both land borders with Mexico and Canada? All arriving and departing flights, ships, etc from all borders, air land and sea? What is "the border"?

Two quick things about were I have worked in the past.

My SIPR computer managed to get infected by something called “mimikatz”? The gently caress if I know but the drat thing happened while I was explicitly only going to sites for the exercise.

The SIPR ports all have fiber connections at the wall so you can’t plug into the wall with a rj45 connection. You at least have to thoughtfully get a media converter to gently caress up the rules.

DFIR guy here. Windows often leaves credentials (PINs, passwords, hashes, Kerberos tickets, other stuff) in running memory for days. Mimikatz is both the name of an exploit that allows a program to extract things from memory, and also the name of an exceptionally handy utility for finding and extracting those cached credentials. If, say an IT administrator remoted into your system to install a program or do maintenance in the last few days, their admin credentials are cached and can be extracted via Mimikatz. So the risk is that not only will the attacker be able to gain persistence on your system via your credentials, but they'll be able to move laterally to other machines at a higher level of privilege when they find admin credentials. With those admin credentials it's a pretty quick trip to get Global Admin, and then you own the organization.

In TYOOL 2024 all DoD computers should* have something like Crowdstrike or Defender for Endpoint on them, which should** detect Mimikatz and alert the authorities*** immediately.

* lol
** there's always the possibility of a novel technique no one has seen before
*** whether they will take action with the speed and urgency required is questionable and varies from org to org

IIRC, the law also has a timer on it that says businesses can't just switch and would have to either be a brand new business, or have been a bakery/Panera before 2023.

Ah yes, the "bake and switch"
