Count Thrashula posted:The skin/tentacle/stuff looks absolutely gross, bravo Thanks- still a work in process, and has been evolving along the way. The mushrooms are just a Magos Purple dominant mix of the skin shade, I’m hoping I can pull them off in the end. Horns, two or three pinwashes, highlights and scratching, and bases, then I’m done.

The purple on that spartan is gorgeous, and I love all the colour you incorporated into the Sorceress. Even her hair really stands out.

Well, as an update to my previous posts, it looks like Coat D'Arms does match GW's old paints pretty well; unfortunately, it is very thin in comparison so it's taking multiple layers of paint to get coverage. At least I didn't have to paint over my prior work, though I ordered a bunch of Vallejo for any future models. Working on Battletech models right now (with a few tabletop RPG minis if I burn out on army painting, but I figure 12 models max for a unit should avoid that); finished my Jade Falcon Nova I had mostly done a while back. Not exactly my greatest work (need a LOT more work on cockpits for one), but A. it's not terrible either, especially for this many years off, and B. I'm just glad I buckled down and got the drat things done: You can also see some of the Kurita Sword of Light mechs I'm working on in the background; models are mostly some of the ones from the old Citytech boxes, so they'll probably wind up as cheap OPFOR to slap down on the table rather than display pieces. Also, they had weird issues with primer sticking right; not sure what they treated the plastic with on those old models, but had to break out some paint-on primer and do touching up after washing the spots that weren't taking it. Hopefully that won't be too obvious in the final product.

Cross-post from the specialist games thread, here's my first fully-painted model for Legio Catholicus, "The Powerwolves," Beast of Gevaudan. I still don't enjoy painting, and I look at some of the stuff that people in this thread produce and wonder why I even bother, but having a painted model is kind of satisfying even if the paintwork is trash, and maybe I'll get it on the table some day

I finished the Reaper Henchmen and Hirelings box, just in time for today's DCC game to be cancelled and the group effectively disbanded. But I bought this set primarily because I thought it would be fun to paint, and I was right. Thank you to everyone who offered advice on my earlier work. The Muscle Ranged Combat Lighting Baggage Handlers I used the Scale75 starter paint set augmented with some Proacryls. Some of the Scale paints have bad coverage and they basically don't blend at all once you apply them to a mini. I don't know if that's inherent to the paint or if they started to separate/degrade at some point between Adepticon and now. I assumed it was user error on my part until I picked up the Proacryl Yellow Ochre on the recommendation of a friend, because everyone said the Scalecolor yellow sucked even when we were painting at the con. The Proacryl paints (I also got their silver and bronze) behave like the ones you see in painting tutorials, rather than immediately separating when you add the tiniest drop of water. I don't mind the starter paints being a little scabby in some applications, it gives the cloth an interesting texture. But for hard surfaces that are supposed to be uniform it's a drag. I love this set. It has the perfect blend of realism, fantasy, comedy and seriousness. The characters are doing things that reflect the typical RPG play experience. Arguing over the map, carefully searching for traps and overloading themselves with loot while the fighters stand at attention, waiting for these nerds to fix their poo poo so they can find something to kill. Next I think I'll order the rest of the Reaper henchmen who didn't make it into the box. There's a halfling and a goblin and some other chumps overloaded with items. Might get some Reaper paints too just to bump the order over the free shipping threshold.

Test model for a prospective Dark Eldar kill team. Highlights are rough due to hand tremors on the second painting day; nothing to be done about that, just my health. Already mentioned where the model came from; in hindsight I should have cleaned it up again before priming, because there were mold lines and a single sprue bit I didn't notice until after I started painting, that are very visible irl. For me in 2017, great conversion; in 2024, a little rough. Still need to do the base rims. Not sure if I'll go ahead with the full team or wait a while.

Trying to order the Vallejo Game Color paints (got the basic sets, but annoyingly they don't seem to have come with any good shade/basecoat/highlight sets) but having issues pulling up actual shops to order it from instead of details, reviews, etc. about it. Any good places to order it online in the US?

I always used Miniature Market in the past, but it's been a few years since I put an order in there and I don't know if there's any issues with them nowadays.

I just discovered that one of the stores near me carries Two Thin Coats. Any particularly good colors of theirs I should pick up a bottle of to try out? (They also carry Citadel and Army Painter, but those are everywhere.)
