Maxed Thief starting vocation at the weekend, and am now at the point where I want some of those other passives but that means not being a thief for a long while. :negative:

At least, I collected some decent gear for other vocations so it's not quite like starting from scratch.

Oh, I'm not stressing about difficulty, it's just that I enjoyed the toolkit a lot and will likely go back to it afterwards. I just feel like I need the carry weight passive from Fighter and the faster climbing from (late) Archer. I deeply resent the latter in fact, like wtf Capcom? I like the Strider/Assassin/Ranger split into Thief/Archer, but faster monster climbing should have been on the Thief side. :argh:

yeah, the jank is real. I had a random poison saurian myself, but it happened during a dialogue, which was funny. And then as it was a quest dialogue where the NPC just disappeared in a fade to black transition, the saurian was gone before I got to deal with it.

I also had my thief arisen stuck in the grappling hook pulling animation after a fight, with the hook/rope tied to a cliff face and my character desperately trying to pull down the rocks apparently. Had to save+reload to regain control.

Also save+reload required to fix my pawn stuck on the spot with her hand desperately out for a victory clap. You could feel the loneliness as the whole party moved out around the hill until I realised she was missing, and here she was, on the location of the last fight, in the same position, hand extended, still seeking validation from the arisen... :smith:

I got poisoned early in game too, but had a mage pawn, so every now and then they'd cast the green healing bubble (rank 0 core skill) which was enough to keep going until I found a campsite. Poison goes away on sleep. That mage bubble does some heavy lifting at low levels. If they don't cast it by themselves, just hit the "Help me" order and they should do it.

I won't lie, I was a bit nervous hitting that sleep button, but thankfully it worked out well. Wasn't sure if it was going to clear out, still be there on waking up, or if I was going to get a popup telling me I died.

I'm continually disappointed how much they nerfed the baseline effectiveness of monster climbing. it used to be one of the best ways to do DPS and was worthwhile even with just regular climbing attacks, in DD2 it's mostly just bad damage until the monster thinking an angry thought makes you randomly fly off and take fall damage. I'm sure the specific "usable while climbing" skills are better but at least on thief there's no reason to use them when skull splitter also exists

Was wondering if it was my rose-tinted glasses speaking because I was thinking the same. I have all the climbing passives between thief and archer, and it still doesn't feel like the Strider of old. And that's before the being thrown off all the time which seriously ticks me off. I still go for it because Draw and Quarter looks awesome, but man, does it feel like effort mode at times.

Will I just not learn Meteoron this playthrough?

Some of those books have multiple copies around. From memory, I know I had two of Nation's Death Knell at least, though I had to rebuy the second copy from the forgery guy since I had stupidly sold it like every other spellbook. You should be able to scrounge up another book and have 3 for the other quest. And check the forgery guy's special store as he seems to resell every important item you stupidly lost/sold.

Subtlety makes you 15% less likely to be attacked by enemies. I put it on my Archer pawn because it just makes sense, but it doesn't make that much difference. For it to be effective I think it's best to simultaneously have a pawn with Provocation.

Other observations: Lethality is lackluster since it only provides a 5% bonus to weak point damage. Mettle is surprisingly good since it's a hefty 30% boost to Defense, which is universally useful, so I would recommend getting to rank 2 in Fighter (if you're not already) so you have access to it.

To think I grinded max rank in archer just for +10% climbing speed... No wonder it doesn't feel any better. :negative:

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think Meteorn/Maelstrom are really bad on pawn sorcerers and not very good on play character sorcerers either. Maelstrom has a bit of a niche as physical damage with more reliable targeting than seism, but in all cases, the prescient/augural flare spell outperforms them. It casts in about 1/10 the time and does about as much damage but much faster and with an almost 100% chance of a knockdown when placed on a weak point if it doesn't just kill outright.

I wouldn't know, I don't play magic vocations. But you can bet that if I unlocked a bigass aoe Maister skill which makes the game unplayable by obscuring everything until only a pile of dead bodies is left when it dissipates, I'm going to perma-slot it on my pawn.

Reached credits and overall it felt really flat and underbaked. Giant golem and dragon were more janky/annoying than entertaining/challenging. I'm in unmoored world though (after looking up what I was supposed to do once I was sent back to the dragonflight because I was completely clueless), so I still have more to do and see. But the whole volcanic island bit felt super rushed. I must have missed a ton of things because I never met Disa and am still unclear as to why I kept being pushed by the quest log to craft and bring Phaesus the ultimate item he apparently needed but didn't actually need and in fact he wasn't happy to see me. Was expecting some story beats addressing that but no: dragon fight and credits.

Don't think I got an achievement out of it, but I did get robbed. Was exploring the plateau SW of elf town, and thought I could jump to the top of a ring ruin on the plateau below. Missed the jump, fell flat on my face with 75% damage and activated the thieves who were chilling around the ruin, one of them helping himself to a ferrystone of mine as I was busy crying face flat on the ground and my pawns were still on the top ledge trying to understand what deep strategic insight I was obviously trying to impart to them.
