So, I really enjoy Converge, early tDEP, Botch, Starkweather, Drowningman, Deadguy, All else failed, mostly stuff from late 90s - early 2000s. I'm looking for stuff that I've missed there and hopefully contemporary bands that can measure up.

At the gates-core and Meshuggah-core give me nothing but headache.

Thanks in advance.

Lol, I know Norma Jean, not a fan for some reason. Ed Gein I've always considered grindcore, as good as they are.

This is awesome

This is also good. Deathwish signature production.

This is groovy.

Thanks Shooga.

I'm listening to Deadguy's Fixation on a coworker and it owns so hard still almost 30 years later, aged like whiskey.

i assume anyone who knows what something awful is and knows how to find their way to this thread knows about norma jean but hey you didn't post them specifically and they basically ripped off botch so i figured it was worth a shot.

glad you like some of the recs, i'm up for the challenge to dive into my depth of knowledge about obscure metalcore bands. i listened to a few songs on the deadguy album you posted and i have more recs

the last band is the sadly the only one that is current and hasn't broken up. this sound of downtempo dissonant hardcore isn't really that popular anymore unfortunately.

Lots of good recs from Shooga and some bands I haven't heard before. Got my listening cut out for me the next few days.

Callous Daoboys is another band that's still around from Shooga's list. I'm catching them in Denver tomorrow actually at a tiny venue!

Here are a few others that might be up your alley that I don't think were mentioned, both new and old:

Better Lovers (has Greg Puciato from TDEP and most of the rest of ETID)
Ion Dissonance (criminally underrated IMO)
Chamber
END
Johnny Booth
Remembering Never
Foreign Hands

yeah i meant vamachara is the only active band from that last batch. callous daoboys are great but i feel like they're shifting away from the sound that i fell in love with on their die on mars album into more singy experimental stuff that i don't vibe with.

speaking of daoboys, old dillinger, and deadguy - they're all playing together in brooklyn in june which i have a ticket for. stoked to see dillinger play calculating infinity aka their only good album :smug:

Thanks for the recs, will check them out later.

I'd also recommend Starkweather's This sheltering night. Blackened sludgy technical metalcore with awesome vocal performance.

He can't kill me. I'm indestructible. Everybody knows that

Saw Botch last night, incredibly good, really tight set that covered all the big hitters, most of We are the Romans and Anthology of dead ends and half of American Nervosa.
I would have said that I wouldn't at all be surprised if they tour again in another few years, but One Twenty Two sounded so out of place and below their standards that I think they are properly done.

Creatively they were done half was through Anthology, which is great but it's properly a band running out of ideas.

Don't know if we're allowed to self promote here, but here goes.

My band has been described as metalcore by a couple people, but I'm not really sure what we are, to be honest.

Anyway, we just had our first live show and I wanted to share! I play bass and piano in the band.

There were a few hiccups, one being the intro video we have worked fine in the sound check but had no audio on performance. The second was we were not totally in line with the click track, which wouldn't be too big a deal if not for the fact that I programmed lights to synch with the band and most importantly, the guitar was too quiet. Again, sounded great at sound check.

Anyways, putting myself out there to all goons which somehow, is scarier than doing it on stage.

i double checked and it looks like frontierer have had a proper band since unloved but the main songwriter/producer for both bands is the same and he more or less did orange mathematics and annihilated by himself other than the vocals. pedram valiani is his name

Freaking out, Misery Signals has been one of my biggest influences/favorite bands for decades now. The whole Karl split was such a bummer but if they’ve reconciled…
