I really like his choice to make the photograph slightly out of focus. It makes it a photo more about how Tim feels his life is going, transcending food photo norms in a profound way.

Not sure, I assumed they were garnish and didn't eat them.

Had it been Alinea I would have assumed the opposite.

for the first 2, what are you going for with your crops? why is the bowl cut off? is the second one about the pasta machine, not the pasta itself?

These were both some of my first photos with a dslr. I still like them but recognize thir faults. For the first I was trying to follow the rule of thirds like a good photography student, but probably cut off too much. The second one is about the making of fresh pasta. I liked the color contrast but would use a larger aperture if taking the shot today.

because you're cutting the pasta off, you're kind of saying it's not as important to your composition. forget the "rule of thirds" and think about what looks good with your bowl instead.

Is anyone out there using a Fuji X100f for their food photography? I was thinking of getting my wife one (we currently shoot Sony, but am considering an all-out switch to Panasonic for my video projects, and Fuji for her photography). Her needs are pretty simple as far as her photography goes.

I shoot wedding details with my x100f all the time, just know that if you are gonna shoot something like 2 feet in front of you you gotta stop down to like f/2.8.

Alright cool, my dudes. I just found out that a local retailer participates in Fuji's Try Before You Buy, so hopefully I can get a hold of an x100F over the weekend and take it for a spin.
