The Chaikas were all deliberately given different personalities that fit with their skills. Fighty red Chaika was aggressive, alchemy blue Chaika was manipulative, mage white Chaika is naive and adorable since she needs someone to protect her while she casts. The people complaining early on about her ~moe~ character design were right on more than one level.

If I recall correctly, she also speaks another language natively; She only speaks the language the rest of the main characters at a barely functional level is the excuse I think.

Yeah, the Chaikas being from a variety of different cultures seems to explain the language thing quite adequately.

Remember that this is an industry where it's not abnormal for animation work to be finished mere hours before air time. And if it looks like poo poo or has unintended gaps in scenes and animation that weren't ready in time, that's what the BluRays are for.

Or in some cases entire episodes are butchered to the point that the director has to come out and publicly apologize for the thing they had to put out to meet the deadline. I dont think chaika had that many problems because it has a pretty simple style and didn't really have overindulgence of crazy animation in its scenes. The fights were a surprising case of less = more in just how simple and well done they were. You never felt lost during them and everything they did made perfect sense. Also the few scenes in that announcement trailer that were new gives me hope that white Chaika is actually going to take on the role of ranged combat support she's supposed to have. Whats the point of having a magic sniper if you are going to shoot at point blank range

Chaika's design is pretty complicated, I'm surprised they stayed on-model as often as they did. Also, I love that S2's subtitle could just as easily be the name of a JRPG BGM track. Chaika is committed to its aesthetic. Though I think another car pun would have been better(or is it one?).

Just finished watching this, it's a pretty good show! My theory is that the world is kept into artificial stasis a la Scrapped Princess(?). Gaz was pushing human development, Leviathan demon thing is trying to derail Chaikas, and Guy may or may not be Gaz' bodyless ghost. :p
