1974 Netherlands vs Brazil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTs2iwMqVMg (Highlights) This match has pretty much everything. Some great skill, dodgy keeping, a lot of brutality (Ze Maria rugby tackling Cruyff and Luis Pereira hacking Neeskens are particular favourites) and some amazing haircuts. The 'fro sported by Jairzinho may well have never been bettered at this level. Has there ever been a better moustache sported in the World Cup than Rivelino's masterpiece?

In the 2006 World Cup, Portugal and the Netherlands met in the Round of 16. Portugal won 1-0, but the match was most noteworthy for the referee, who set a new record for the most cards shown in a World Cup match, showing a total of 16 yellow and 4 red cards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kns7WotXek

I'll watch that over the weekend. I watched Brazil - Uruguay from 1970 a while back, that's a good one as well.

That Portugal - Holland match traumatized the Dutch team for sure, Figo and company beat them up real good proving themselves the superior specimens and since that day the Dutch team walks into our matches already the losers, you can see it on their body language, they're submissive and ready to turtle up at any opportunity. Basically I feel like they're a p*ssy country and it's a sure win whenever we play. Look at their record against Portugal, in 12 matches they have one victory and that was back in 1991. That's embarrassing and I don't like to curse but the best way to put it is that they're poo poo. I can't believe their fans haven't just given up on this sport and tried hockey or some other gay sport.

The Switzerland - Ukraine second round game from 2006 is also on Youtube in it's entirety. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTTpnLuBh5g I say in it's entirety, but many people remain unconvinced that this game has ever actually ended.

The BBC are doing a "World Cup Rewind" series over the nest week or so where they take classic matches and pretend they're happening live, with full text commentary and everything. They're just starting up the first one now, 1966 and all that: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/26684674 Non-Brits won't get the vid I assume but you'll get the text. It'll be interesting to see how they go about it.

THe best part was Deco and Bronckhorst watching the rest of the game on the stairs. for content in 1966 North Korea and Portugal faced off in the quarter finals of the World Cup. North Korea shocked the world by going up three nil against the Portuguese, who much like in 2014, can't defend to save their lives. Thankfully for Portugal, we had The Eusébio, who scored two goals before the end of the first half and then came back on the second half to score another brace, with José Augusto delivering the final blow and ending the match with 5-3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvDKYywpusU Terrific game, the North Koreans were super deadly in the offensive and the goalkeeper, while being a midget, had the capacity to jump like a flea and make spetacular saves. In 2010 Portugal and North Korea met once more in the World Cup, this time in the group stages. Allegedly, this was the first international football match that North Koreans would see live, meaning it would be quite a joyous occasion to settle the score on the defeat of 66. This was after a close defeat against Brazil in the first group match, meaning people were thinking this would be a surprisingly strong North Korean team. They were whooped. Hard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glXJDZqlhEM This year North Korea won't participate in the world cup, so we'll have to contend with humiliating Americans and Germans on our way to a World Cup victory.

July the 5th, 1982, Second Round Group C, Estadio Sarriá, Barcelona. Italy and Brazil have already beaten the defending champs Argentina (Italy 2-1, Brazil 3-1) and now meet in front of a sell-out crowd at Espanyol's bandbox ground (if you're curious why they didn't play this at the Camp Nou, which hosted Group A--a group with two teams from the Eastern Bloc that combined brought roughly 2,000 well-vetted supporters to Iberia, it's because the chair of Espanyol had a ton of pull within the RFEF and as such got the biggest group at his ground) to determine who goes through to the semi-final. Brazil has Sócrates, Zico, Falcão and is managed by the great Telé Santana, regarded as the master of o jogo bonito; Italy has Paolo Rossi, Marco Tardelli, Dino Zoff and is led by the dyspeptic Friulan Enzo Bearzot, who had quite famously announced a silenzio stampa following a first group stage where they only scraped through on goals scored. Your referee is the great Israeli Abe Klein. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVxEWmDS4UY
