Real bullets mess up how cool this thing looks.

This start happening a few days ago, at first it was just once or twice, but now it's happening with quickly increasing frequency.

In short, the basic symptom is that I'll hear some kind of error/warning beep and my KBM will briefly pause before resuming. Now, sometimes when it happens, both freeze completely.

There doesn't seem to be any specific cause - it'll happen when I'm working, browsing the web, emailing, playing games, etc. Both my KB and mouse are USB, and I have disconnected and reconnected them - it didn't resolve the problem, and doing it after the machine has frozen does not resolve it.

Machine specs:

Windows 8.1, updated
ATI 7950, current driver, Sapphire branded
2x HD 1T|SAMSUNG HD103SJ 32M 7K % for data
1x SanDisk Extreme 240GB SSD for system (checked with Sandisk SSD Scan, passed)
MB ASROCK|Z77 EXTREME4 Z77 1155 R Motherboard
Intel i7...don't remember the specific model offhand
Generic Blu-Ray player/DVD burner
PSU ANTEC| NEO ECO 520C 520W RT
I believe this is the memory I'm using, but I can't find the receipt in my e-mail: Samsung Electronics Extreme Low Voltage 30nm UDIMM 8 Dual Channel Kit DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM MV-3V4G3D/US

Basically it's all the parts that were suggested in the SHSC thread at the time.

I use Avast for antivirus, passed a scan just a little while ago. However trying to run Speedfan will cause a blue screen and forced restart, after testing it a couple times. My PC has not been moved or jostled much, and I've had it since late 2012 so I'm not sure how likely that is. The only peripherals I have attached are my keyboard (MS Sidewinder X6), mouse (Logitech G400), and printer (Brother MFC9120CN)

The only other issue I can think of adding right now is that I have lost power unexpectedly to my machine a couple times recently, due to storms and also my dog stepping on the switch to my power strip (oops). Any suggestions would be much appreciated - I'm going to sync my work files to Google Drive overnight and update it, so I don't lose that in case it turns out to be worse than expected.

Posting this now while I retrieve more information, will edit shortly. Don't want to have my machine freeze again.

Edit: added more details and system information.

Edit 2: forgot to include, the error message that pops up when it blue screens on trying to run speed fan is "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal (iaStorA.sys)" After some reading it looks like a compatibility issue with Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

Edit 3: and now the mouse is locking up before windows even launches. Must be either a bios problem or a hardware problem.

Edit 4: when the KBM do both freeze, I am now noticing that both the backlight on my keyboard and the sensor on my mouse will flicker on and off. Not sure if or how that helps. Currently trying to get my windows key so I can prepare to blow away the machine and reinstall windows.

If the problems continue after a format try running

http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ (check CPU temp)
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ (check GPU temp)

And run the portable edition of CDI to check HD health:

I meant to update this, but I'm fairly certain it's a physical problem with the mouse cable.

The mouse is a G400, and there are known issues with the wires fraying inside the sheath causing this problem.
It escalated rapidly, and only triggered when moving the mouse.
I moved the Keyboard and Mouse connections to the front USB ports where it was still happening.
I didn't notice it at first, and it took me awhile to figure out what the sound was, but every time it triggers, I hear two alerts. The first is the "USB disconnected" tone, the second is the "New USB device detected" tone.

It COULD be a Windows issue, but I'd rather not reformat at the moment as I moved recently and I haven't found my Windows install media. Give everything I tested this morning though, I'm fairly certain it's a physical issue with the mouse.
