Inbred trap "Home" was already mentioned, so I'll go with my second favorite; one that really made me hate a dark hallway as a child: Detour Those glowing red eyes in the hallway hosed me up for a long time. Edit- gently caress! How could I forget about my third favorite. Ice Who Goes There?+The Thing homage. Lord Sexatron has a new favorite as of 06:22 on Nov 3, 2014 |

I don't see it mentioned a lot in these threads, but DPO is peak X-Files. It's not my favorite episode (probably in the top 20 though, maybe even top 10), but that episode is 100% essence of x-files

I love a lot of the episodes already mentioned - Die Hand, Arcadia, Monday, X-COPS, Postmodern Prometheus, Home, Bad Blood... Triangle is my favorite in terms of cinematography - the entire episode is gorgeously shot with an awesome storyline, but the scene where Scully races through the FBI trying to get someone to help her find Mulder is probably the most impressive thing they ever did on the show cinematograpy-wise. It's like 10 minutes long of Scully running through the FBI with heavy dialogue and Gillian Anderson is everything. Also Nazi Smoking Man and Scully punching Mulder. Ice is awesome, even though it's essentially just The Thing with a lower budget. Syzygy is also great as a Carrie knockoff, full of 90s teen girl angst and chubby Ryan Reynolds. Plus Mulder getting drunk and Scully chainsmoking. I really always liked Field Trip, too. I love the idea of a giant malevolent psychedelic fungus trying to trap food as an explanation for ghost lights. It was also just a kinda cool episode idea. Honorable mention to Drive and Lord of the Flies for introducing Vince Gilligan to Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. Also Lord of the Flies has Jane Lynch as a spider woman for reasons. Drive is legitimately a good episode though.

Posting in case anyone reading hasn't heard: http://www.feralaudio.com/show/x-files-files/ Kumail Nanjiani podcast, re watching the series in mostly chronological order and has interviewed some interesting series staff so far. I recommend it to anyone consuming the show now on netflix and looking for a really good companion.

Since Home and Jose Chung have been mentioned, I'm going to say Drive. It's an episode based around Bryan Cranston acting like his head is about to explode. Also the first time he worked with Vince Gilligan.

I like the one where mulder thinks there's a loch ness monster killing people, and Scully refuses to believe it, and then it turns out to be a regular alligator.

Which episode is the one where Brad Douriff plays a death row psychic? That was my favorite. Also, I'm on season 5 and I find a little ridiculous that Mulder spends the wholething doubting the existence of aliens. I mean, they've interacted with aliens dozens of times before

Just watched Confessions of a Cig Smoking Man. Wow. Gotta say it was a BIT heavy handed in the first half but all the book writing stuff made me feel... feelings. I liked the character before but now.. I love him. He acted. The character got EXCITED. He's no longer just some nameless bad guy mustache twirling villain. He's a guy. With broken hopes and shattered dreams who sits alone on Christmas and really would rather not shoot an alien in the face. This show is loving great.

Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So, you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or an English toffee, but they're gone too fast, and the taste is... fleeting. So, you end up with nothing but broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth-shattering nuts. And if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is an empty box filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

I love it too, but gently caress that episode because I was scared to use any washroom/shower for a whole week after seeing it as a child. My other favourite was Darkness Falls. It got adapted in to a novel and I liked the episode so much that I actually read it too.
