The republicans won the senate. They won in a landslide. Everything is going wrong. All the institutions we put our trust in have failed. Our politicians have failed us and lied repeatedly. Racial strife is rampant. Women are second class citizens. So are LGBT and people of color. It's enough to make you lose your mind and go crazy. It's certainly enough to make a good amount of the people on this forum borderline suicidal. After having several massive breakdowns due to a civil rights ordinance in my city being repealed by popular vote I came to a simple conclusion that really I think will make everyone on here a lot better of. Stop. Worrying. So. God. Damned. Much. And. Accept. The. End. There is nothing anyone here can do anything about any of this stuff. You are all completely powerless. I am completely powerless. Worrying about all this poo poo to the level all of you do only makes your life worse. No good can come from it at this point and time. Your protests won't work. There's not going to be any voting going on for a good long while. And overall if you read Think Progress or Free Republic every single loving day all you are going to be doing to yourself is making yourself miserable. We all need to let go. Seriously.

I get that feeling, but even in a moderately long-term view even having a civil rights ordinance is progress, even if it does get voted away. Several places still have them, and that's a good thing. That being said, the MLK quote "the arc of history is long but it tends toward justice" is well-meaning bullshit, so it's not like LGBT rights is inevitable or anything.

That's why most of the "Good news" stories are usually kind of unique.
