D&D: a Tale of Two Cities

Greetings, being that I’m new and I noticed this D&D sub forum, I thought I would pose a few questions for discussion and or debate. Now I have to admit, I have not played D&D since 1st Edition (stop playing around 1987), but I did buy the recent 5th edition core rule books, for reading purposes.

I would like to discuss the social, political and economic possibilities that the cities of Greyhawk and Baldur’s Gate would be presented with, if they existed in modern day USA.

First the background data for each city:

Free City of Greyhawk

Baldur’s Gate

Now for purposes of placing these two cities into different geo-political regions, but not polar opposites, let’s say for the sake of discussion that Greyhawk is in Northern California, and Baldur’s Gate is in a Mid-Atlantic state (Maryland, perhaps).

The greatest difference between these two cities is the population difference, Greyhawk having roughly 3 times the population of Baldur’s Gate. Both however have the same system of governance leadership, both are Oligarchies.

Now here is the discussion / debate issues:

1. Which of these two cities would be more likely to change its governance type and elect or appoint a single leader?
2. What form of governance would that most likely be? (ie. Dictatorship; Monarchy; Constitutional Monarchy; President; Prime Minister).
3. If both cities chose to have one leader, which leader would they likely choose: Jeb Bush; Donald Trump; Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders?
4. Would either of these two cities be more prone to having more progressive or more conservative policies? If so, which would each likely be?
5. Which of these two cities would you rather make a home for you and your family, based on its original descriptions or our newly constructed versions?

I am very interested in reading what you all can come up with.

Sorry I meant to say I hope that the police use maximum force and kill or maim a bunch of innocent people, thus paving a way for a proletarian uprising and socialist utopia

also here's a stupid take

Free City of Greyhawk is Communist and therefore perfect in every way.

So you're saying that Greyhawk would likely go with Bernie Sanders?

Mind you, as socialist as Sanders claims to be, if he were elected President, he would be beholden to big business and billionaires regardless of his own political beliefs.

I would like to ask, does Greyhawk strike you as being more communist than Baldur's Gate, and why?

Is Bernie more of a figher, a paladin, a ranger or a barbarian?

ASHERAH DEMANDS I FEAST, I VOTE FOR A FEAST OF FLESH
Paladin, he talks and acts nice, and is a fighter deep down. But he is blinded by his zeal for his God, economic justice, and so overlooks the needy right in front of him in his arrogance.

That's a weird way to say Sigil, where the Benevolent Lady and the guilds keep everyone safe and happy and well traveled. :colbert:

Baldurs Gate would vote for Trump, OP. They have a long history of troubles with dopplegangers, but not even dopplegangers can make themselves wear Trump's toupee. It's a security measure. Also, he is strong on Baalspawn immigration. They only send the bad ones to BG. They keep the good ones in the monasteries if Amn! :argh:

I was going for the "short and manic" part of being a gnome but if you want to indulge in stereotypes this is the thread for it, what with the shallow characterizations in fantasy writing and all.

I have a want to kill skunks, and being that baldurs gate has kobolds in its sewers I think I'll live there. Although tearing down the old order is fine, so maybe a half orc in Tarant.

Sigil is a bad place though - libertarians are managing the tax office, fascists are the police, a doomsday cult took over the arms industry and the seat of government is presided by narcissistic solipsists. The only socialist faction got mazed years ago.

Enjoy

Don't let his temper when speaking fool you, Bernie Sanders is no frontline warrior type. He's an Illusionist, as are most politicians.
