Sucks man, but with how much rust and previous owner hell that thing had gooped all over it, I think you did the right thing to make it someone else's problem. I bet you can build a better bus with a more solid foundation eventually. If you need bus parts later, my aunt and uncle have their own private acvw junkyard of sorts in Oregon and I might be able to pull some favors.
