TROIKA CURES GREEK posted:I really don't think he's anything like Huntsman and I doubt very much he shared any significant % of supporters. I don't think SW really even had a base outside of WI to be honest, his polling was pure name recognition, which is pretty much the complete opposite of Huntsmans deal. Republicans outside of WI were vaguely aware that he was the dude that showed the unions whats what but as soon as they actually saw him speak his support vanished completely. They're similar insofar as they both got a small policy wonk section of the GOP excited but turned out to have absolutely no appeal to the GOP's primary voters. Philthy posted:Wait, what. A director and screenwriter? I would imagine he is a part of SAG and all the other unions that depend on each other for Hollywood to even function. This would be like a black KKK guy. I suppose there has got to be at least one out there. I guess Reagan was in a union for his entire life, but he also praised them during that time. He only busted up the airline one because he was pissed, not because he was inherently anti-union. Reagan also praised unions while his administration was gutting labour rights. One of his criticisms of the Soviet Union was that workers couldn't form their own unions. Anyway the guy I'm thinking of has a property on Lake Muskoka, a nice house in downtown Toronto and a house in Los Angeles so I imagine his status as a rich old white guy trumps the fact he should theoretically know better (the guy was also in Vietnam reporting on the war so he should really know better, but something funny happens to white dudes after they hit 40). He's also the kind of guy who would claim to be a moderate conservative despite tending to support and identify with the Republicans.

The Department of Administration of Wisconsin incurred costs for his presidential bid, and is now seeking a refund from his campaign war chest leftovers for what they paid.

The Department of Administration was stuffed with Walker stooges and is now extremely corrupt and partisan. For example, they claimed pro-union protesters did $7.2 million in damage to the capitol, which was eventually revised down to nothing. Since his presidential bid failed, Walker's next move is to put all workers in the state under their purview.

Check out this e-mail coming from DHS Secretary to us plebians: quote:September 24th,2015 - Governor Scott Walker Releases Statement on Recruitment and Retention Reforms 1: Supervisors are trained to be discouraged from recommending subordinate staff for discretionary merit compensation. 2. All of the staff he mentions by name in this are republicans (not really a surprise). 3. The job selection process is slow because it's been designed to be as objective as possible. 4. The mentioning of specific cases is the same as identifying the bus drivers who abused the overtime system to make 100,000+/year: divide and conquer. Get us pissed at each other and they change the rules to the benefit of the rich.

Not gunna lie, applying for the state is a huge pain in the rear end that generally takes months. When I was unemployed, I applied for about 6 or 7 positions. Each required either a test and multiple page essay to be considered, or just essay questions. I didn't mind doing this, it separates people who can't even spell their names and allows for people to really explain why they're qualified. You finally get an email one to two months later asking to call so and so and set up a time to come in for an initial interview which is usually two weeks out. Once you get in, it's usually three people who are considered experts in the field you're going to be going in (IT for me). None of them ever saw your essay questions that you submitted previously, they're not allowed to. After this, if it goes well, you will then wait another week or two and set up a second interview with the manager you would be working under. The amount of time to get a single job for the state is loving ridiculous, and I can only applaud any process that makes it into something more sane. I remember the days of throwing my resume at a company, getting a call the next day asking for you to come in, you hit it off, and you get an offer a day or two later. Done. I also walked both ways to school in the snow. Up a hill.

Government jobs tend to also be incredibly stable compared to most sectors, to the extent that the months of vetting tend to be worth it. Of course, this might not be the case in Scott Walkers Teenage Nuclear Superpocalypse

All of this poo poo is in place because 100 years ago whichever rear end in a top hat got elected as governor would fire a bunch of people and replace them with whoever helped him get elected / his family / his drinking buddies. As a society we eventually decided that letting executives give government jobs to their buddies or as a "thank you" for helping them get elected was A Bad Thing, so we put in place systems with tedious checks all along the way to ensure that poo poo doesn't happen anymore. I'm sure it feels good to bitch about how much of a pain in the rear end the process was, but if the process wasn't there the job never would have been posted - it just would have been given to some retarded nephew of the Koch brothers.

The problem is that you basically have to be unemployed to have the time and willpower to see the entire process through. I couldn't imagine a good engineer from somewhere else thinking "Hey, that job opening at the state sounds pretty kickass." and stick through it. They've got to be missing out by doing this.
