The answer is (almost) always yes. Different solutions to the Dummy fight at the beginning lead to different responses from the Mad Dummy.

Going to teach this game next semester in a class that'll be some print fiction, some games, and some in between stuff (hyperlink stories, Twine, etc). Will leave the class to their own devices for initial playthroughs, but very glad to be able to draw on this thread to blow their minds afterward.

Is it wrong that I somehow find "You did it! You didn't do a violence!" one of the most heartwarming things ever?
I can have moments of... eccentricity and sometimes be quite curious about things. Please forgive me if I do something foolish or rude.

Good LP, I spoiled myself pretty thoroughly on this because I felt I wouldn't have time to play it (in grad school). That and garden variety curiosity. Now I bought the game and the soundtrack and will probably play through myself as a victory lap for this LP come winter break.

Just powered through the whole LP, thanks so much for doing this! I bought it but just couldn't get into the bullet hell thing. I'm glad I got to see the rest of the game, though. Was Asgore/Toriel/Asriel's name being Dreemur anything more than a red herring? It reminded me of Link's Awakening in a way, but it never seemed to be anything more than a name.

It's not specifically mentioned one way or the other, but it'd be a stretch to believe the dream route since the game potentially spans multiple days and the monsters are with you when you exit the barrier, and getting out would be the standard wake up point

The Sezza posted:Ohhh. Okay, I know what's going on now. I did hear about it second-hand so I didn't see it myself, but the stuff I said is actually in the game's source files. I checked the big rip of all the text and it was there, but I guess it just wasn't actually used in-game. I just assumed it was cause it was exactly the kind of thing I expected would have happened. I have been semi-japed. My apologies. It might be random whether you get it, or it could be faked, I'm not entirely sure.

Agreed. I was looking at a pastebin of something else the other day and the little "Public Pastes" bar on the right hand of the page had Undertale slash fiction. Not the worst thing I've blundered into on pastebin, but it was up there.

The internet will make porn out of anything, from what I've seen the majority of the Undertale fan community just makes a load of fanfiction (ranging from awkward to adorable) and more artwork than you can possibly bear. It could be a lot worse.

I've lurked this thread since the start; buying the game and soundtrack halfway through the first update. I'd never heard of the game, or even that Toby Fox was working on one until this LP. I do not regret my purchases, or my time reading this thread. I've since rode the rollercoaster and done every kind of playthrough imaginable, and continued reading the thread...even the posts that got cringe-worthy and full of spoilers before the LP got to them. Great work here, the LP itself managed to remain at least as entertaining as the game itself.

Before this thing closes, I'm just curious--in the Papyrus killed run judgement, Sans says that sometimes you act like you know what's gonna happen, does he say the same thing if you haven't reset/died/reloaded up to that point on a 'first' run?

There's a sorta nudge-nudge-wink quality to his comment at the restaurant that he's kept you safe so far because you never died. eta: whoops, misunderstood your question, nevermind

For those who were unaware, Prof started another LP. Like this one, it's another low-budget game from a small company that nonetheless received nearly universal praise and became a cult classic. Unlike this one, it wasn't made in the last six months.

I had a random thought while making lunch just now. We have a ridiculous debate on whether games are or aren't art. But with a straight face people claim to be sandwich or coffee artisans.
|
# ? Dec 12, 2015 18:48 |
Artisan means someone who practices a skilled trades with their hands, not an artist. That said... who says you can't create art in the medium of coffee? Are you gaining much by saying human expression can't extend to drinks? Small minded thinking only shrinks your world, not the world of the visionary who's recreating the taste of the Irish Potato Famine by putting tarragon and shaved willow in a latte.

I know it's probably too late to add these into the LP, but here are some silly lines from the Mettaton EX fight. Oooh, it's time for a pop quiz! I hope you brought a keyboard... This one's an essay question! Nice. You get a gold star. [Any writing] Beautiful. Sometimes the fewest words speak the loudest. [One word] Speechless...? Who can blame you? [No writing] How creative. Arms... most people just think about my legs. [ARMS] My hair... yes, I use metal hair gel. [HAIR] Toby? What the hell is that? Sounds... sexy. [TOBY] They say I have the voice of a Siren... awooga! [VOICE] Dancing...? Thank you, I'm self-taught. [DANCING] That's right. Legs was the correct answer! [LEGS] Nice detail... You're right, I do look quite nice. [GORGEOUS] Oh my! This is a family friendly TV show. Now stand still while I murder you. [Any sort of profanity (including "bepis")] Huh? This essay is supposed to be about me, not about you... [Any sort of insulting word]
