many pioneers of computer science have passed on but one guy is still kicking and that's SIR TONY HOARE, aka the sensational C.A.R. sir tony facts: - raised by tigers in sri lanka - hung out with michael jackson in college - invented quicksort while working for the commies - a wizard irl also he developed the general theory of procedural semantics, so you can determine what a program really does rather than blundering around like a php monkey. this was essential to the structured programming movement though hoare preferred to make only constructive contributions rather than raise drama like some other folks. oh yeah he invented structured concurrency too. monitors, message passing, that's him it's now many many years since i was browsing the university library and randomly happened on goldblatt's "axiomatising the logic of computer programming," a cheaply printed introduction to hoare's theory. i was already into both programming and mathematical formalism at the time and here was a book telling me that i could have two great tastes together, and that's still the foundation of my programming methodology today show ur respect for sir tony itt
